    Default New to the board

My name is Steve Roark. I currently work for S&N Communications, but I am a locator by trade. My job is to stop over notification of Miss U tickets from our in house people and our subs on the FTTP and FiOS builds. I worked for UtiliQuest before this and also a short time with Consolidated. I currently sit on the Virginia SCC Advisory Committee as a rep for the excavators. Glad to be here and share thoughts with you all.

Va. Code §56-265.31 states that the "Commission shall establish an advisory committee consisting of representatives of the following entities: (1)Commission staff, (2)utility operator, (1)notification center, (3)excavator, (2)municipality, (1)Virginia Department of Transportation, (1)Board for Contractors, and (2)underground line locator. Persons appointed to the advisory committee by the Commission shall have expertise with the operation of the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act. The advisory committee shall perform duties which may be assigned by the Commission, including the review of reports of violations of the chapter, and make recommendations to the Commission."

My duties, even though I have a seat as an excavator, are the same as every other member. I am but one of many different opinions to be shared in an open forum to review violations, new rules and laws that may come up for a vote. I guess what I do bring to the table is not only my years of excavator experience but an equal amount of locator experience.

    Hope that answers your question.

I'm really happy to be a part of the forum and I have read through a lot of interesting conversations......in particular the NULCA debate.
