Just curious because I find 8 and 33 to be the most common for me. And after reading the manual for the RD4000 online. I found that the manufacturer recomends those 2 as well.

9.8, 82, 83.3, 332, 450 all in the kHz range.

I used them all about equally, depending on any given situation in any given locate.
And I still need to check out subsite!!! Thanks for the reminder yahoo!
Character is what you are in the dark. It is the things you do, when nobody can see, and nobody will ever know, that define who you are as an individual.

I will have to go with 8.19 kHz and 32.8 kHz for my ring clamp. They been good to me.![]()
I use exactly the same, The only reason I even asked this question is at usic these trainees are coming out of class with the impression that 5 will work in all situations but infact the users manual explains that "5 should only be used when locating long, straight large cables or pipes." There has to be a way to change the way that the largest locating company in the world instructs their new hires!!!!! These new hires have to understand that book work and field work are 2 different things. I am truly sorry if any of you are trainers or upper leval corperate types and are instructed to teach like this. But just in the last month or so I recieved a call from a fellow experianced tech and he asked me how to break the fng's training habbits. I told him "all you can do is let him try without instruction and see what happens", The trainee will eventually come to you and say "o.k. now what" Thats when I said "now you step inand take it from there"!
This call is the same call I used to make to others and is the Main reason why i refuse to Mentor new techs!!!!!!
Gee wish I was so lucky to have something else other than broken down and repaired metrotech 810 :O(
Clay soil area or a area with multi. cables I use 5.12. 90% of the time I use 8.
8 & 33 work for me, not a big fan of 5, but does come in handy once in awhile with old electric.
Life's a garden, dig it! - Joe Dirt
9.8 almost always, rare that I have the room to induce with 88.
32 or 83. Use lower freq's when needed. If I need to be quick 98% will run with the good ol' 810.
Subsite is the best. I use 8 most of the time.
So far, This poll has answered all my questions!!!! Thank you all for your responses and for all you trainers and corperates at usic please please please allow your trainees to attempt something besides 5.12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! Its quite obivious that all you guys are looking for is a bunch of robots who can't think or act for themselves!!!! The true and real locators understand that every single locate is new and different, different techniques and methods are learned everyday and they all need to be approached with optimism and a open mind!!!!!!! If we all only used what "training" taught us then I guarentee that most of us would be doing something else besides locating!!!!!!!!
