New Naming Poll based on suggestions
this name seems to be more professional and covers everyone involved.....
wise men talk because they have something to say and fools because they have to say something....plato
I voted for the ADPS since I believe "national" is limiting. I think a good organization could accommodate locators from other companies.
"Change does not always equal progress."
I'm in. Kinda like taking 'the vine' to the next level. It would give the common foot soldiers in a voice in the one call process and make markouts better and more accurate for everyone.
All the names in the poll are good ones, but I see a problem with all of them. The .org and .com domains are taken. Snow Day means Slow Day so I have a few new suggestions:
NULPA - National Utility Locators Professional Association
AULO - American Utility Locators Organization (Begins with 'A', Top Billing)
PAUUL - Professional Association of Underground Utility Locators
PUULA - Professional Underground Utility Locators Association
This one's available,
NUMB - National Underground Markout Brotherhood
Here's one that reminds us of where we are on the food chain:
ALPO - American Locators Professional Organization
Just a few suggestions. Also, a very good friend of mine owns a large web hosting company. He could secure the domain name's (best to get .org and .com) and would be willing to help us out with unlimited space and email services. Might not be free but REAL cheap. His clients are Wall Street and high profile businesses. I have several sites he hosts, maybe Pro Lo was visiting one the other snow day. Ha.
After that, the next step would be obtaining seed money and starting a Non Profit. I tried to post a link, but 'the vine' won't let me, not enough posts.
Oh well, that's my 2 cents. Let's keep it rolling, it's a great idear.
Don't worry about the web addresses. I secured the com and org names for all of the suggested acronyms and I will turn over the address to the organization once it is formed. (I do this a lot, I own somewhere between 300 - 400 web addresses). Once the group is formed, seed money from initial dues will help get the ball rolling and a non-profit status needs to be filed (a 503(c) organization). Following that a web presence needs to be created and the group should solicit proposals from several web designers / hosters to ensure the best deal possible. From there, an interim board will have to be seated until board elections can be accomplished. Those folks will have to shape the look and feel of the web presence to entice more members, finalize bylaws of the group and begin the hard work of keeping the organization going.
What about our Canadian (or Canadien) and Australian counterparts just here on this forum Locator4life? 'American' 'National' or anything else would kinda make them feel not wanted.
I would like to see Everyone who wants to a part of it to Be a part of it. (World Wide)
The only problem with ADPS is it doesn't say what it really is. Damage to what? Cars, streets, waterways, the environment? My vote is with something that properly defines the membership. If the membership consists of Professional Utility Locators, say so.
NAPUL for me.
I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.
International Association of Utility Locators.
International Association of Utility Damage Prevention Specialist.
