What would you think if the owner of your company competed in the Locate Rodeo?
What would you think if the owner of your company competed in the Locate Rodeo?
Job Applicant: What does this job pay?
Employer: I'm going to pay you just what you are worth!
Job Applicant: I don't think I can work for that......
Character is what you are in the dark. It is the things you do, when nobody can see, and nobody will ever know, that define who you are as an individual.

Per Scientiam Vires!
owners know how to locate? lol im just kidding
"What Are You Doin!?!? GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN!"
you have entered a restricted area
Come on down; we have an owner this year already!
I can't believe someone in management knows how to locate. Props to you if you compete. I would love to be going down. I don't even know if USIC is sending anyone this year?
No one here is being sent

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ......SON YOU GONNA GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK YOU GOT TO STOP WITH THE JOKESpersonally I would like to see if he still has it
Yep, I heard RHD in Atlanta (private locating firm) is sending their owner over to compete - heard he signed up "from the get-go" (that's southern slang for "from the very beginning"). One of our competitors had to withdraw at the last minute so I will be taking her place this year. I consider myself a locator first and whatever else I am second - some of you may disagree and I'm good with that. I struggled with this decision for a while and solicited a lot of feedback from others before throwing my name in the hat. I have supported the Locate Rodeo on many different levels all eight years of the event, spent much time and $$ out of my own pocket to keep this thing going, and always wanted to get out there and see what I could do. I may not win, but I'm sure going to try.
I will be competing in the Gas division.

Bobby Knight had a theory. He stated that a coach (or Boss) should never play ball with the players. If a coach was to shoot around with the players and miss badly on most of his shots, the players would lose all respect for the coach.
I think the same goes for locating, Locators usually have contempt for management anyways, and if the bosses did go out and locate and got a damage....he would lose all respect from the employees.
Just a thought
That's college sports where you have a much older person teaching teens. Pro sports are different. Most coaches are playing with their players. A Coach has played their sport and usually somewhat well, whereas some management don't know the difference between a transmitter and a reciever.

Bobby Knight had a good theory there but taking the words from a raving lunatic who thows tantrums (and whatever else he can get his hands on) as gospel doesn't really seem like a good way to model ones life.
ahhh.... who hasn't been a raving lunatic from time to time..... choking players..... throwing chairs.......
*sniffles* Reminds me of my mother.....
On the other hand, there are a lot of people out there who have a lot of respect for a boss who isn't afraid to dive in the trenches with them. Personally, I think your boss should not ask you to do anything that they would not be willing to do themselves if removed of the managerial roles they hold. Realistically, they are not going to run tickets, because they are busy running the show, but demonstrating that they can locate isn't a bad thing.
I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.
