TBONE, Please for the love of god tell me that's a joke!! Is it a joke??? God I hope it is!!
That is THE MOST IGNORANT WASTE OF TIME THING I have EVER heard !!!!
And to think, SOMEONE sat around thinking of this, then TOOK THE STEPS to impliment this peice of shit policy!
That right there can sum up ALL that is wrong with contract locating!
I hope this comes to Texas. With all of the alleys I work in I have to continually back into driveways - you know, drive past the chosen driveway, make sure it's clear then back into it. I would be calling him at least 15-20 times a day!!
I might not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was !
It's better to be Pissed Off than Pissed On or Stood On and Pissed Off Of !

That is just ridiculous. I understand that it's best not to back up unless it's necessary. But calling you're DM everytime you back up is just silly. It is a necessary evil. No matter how much you plan ahead you're still going to have to back up sometimes. If you've ever worked in new construction sites you know what I mean. You can park your truck with tons of room around it but by the time you get done with your locate you'll be boxed in by constrruction vehicles.
The funny thing is I can rarely get ahold of my supervisor. Your DM must have nothing to do if he can ask that 100 drivers call him 20 times a day.

I definitely believe USIC has a few employees at upper levels that don't have anything to do but sit around and think up new things to force on Locators. I believe this is called MicroManagement. If they can generate enough paperwork, e-mails, etc. they can justify their existence at the company.

Well whoever the genius was that thought that up should be punched in the mouth.
Try this on for size to justify your existence.
New Market Development, Obtaining New and WELL PAYING contracts, Equipment Research and Development, Looking around the office your in to see which 3 out of the 4 people in there have NO LOCATING experience and Lay them OFF to lower expenses!

You hit it right on. That's exactly what they do and it's easy to sit and point the finger and tell someone to do something that they themselves do not have to do. I mean do they call the VP everytime they back up thier vehicle? If half of these corporate jokesters had to do half of the garbage that they come up with things would be a whole lot different.![]()

So, how does a typical conversation go? Seriously.
wise men talk because they have something to say and fools because they have to say something....plato
I bet the DM love this as much as the locators. Who do the DMs call when they have to back up?
I remember they came up with this great plan to notify our SUP every time we located a HP facility. So the whole crew got together and we sent notifications to our sup on every HP locate. But cc'd the entire crew. After about 200 emails for about a week he told us to stop!!!! I mean he got pissed!
If you are not a Liberal by age 20, then you do not have a heart! If you are not a Conservative by age 40, then you do not have a brain!!!
so.... Do you have to call him to back out of your driveway? (if you take your rigs home that is) Is there a Grey area? can you leave it in Neutral and coast backwards? or do you have to call on that? What if your stuck in the mud and you have to rock the vehicle back and fourth. Do you need to call each time you place it in reverse? or do you just stay on the phone with your DM till your free and clear?
One of my fondest memories when I first started locating.... Me in a ford escort wagon on a small logging road in the middle of nowhere when I hear on the CB a truck coming my direction. I had to grab my stuff quickly and back up doing 35 too the next pull out to let the truck go by I did not close the back hatch when I put the brakes on I lost two cases of paint. one of the cans in the first case ruptured and got paint all over the place. I loved going in reverse on logging roads....mmmmm fun.
