    Default Slow Computer Fix

Does anyone have any suggestions oon speeding up my computer? I have updated everything and cleaned my disk, compressed files, de-fragmented, deleted cookies, history etc. I'm only using about 25% of my available memory. Is there a good , reasonably priced program I can download that will identify and fix what is wrong ?

I always check the process list in the task manager for what is using a lot of cpu - if its running under your username or doesn't sound like a key windows process you might try ending it.

search for spybot search and destroy - go into tools and take a look at startup programs and such

Same advice, download AVG Free 9.0 and run a scan, will clean up all of the spyware. Adaware is another free download that is very good at cleaning all of the spyware that runs in the background that slows down a computer.

Are you running Windows XP? If you go to Start - Run - type msconfig and go to the startup folder. Uncheck as many items as you can because all those programs start with windows even if you don't need them to. Most people can get away with 0 startup items.

One of the best and most famous programs for cleaning up useless junk is Crap Cleaner:

You can run this to delete a bunch of temporary files that windows doesn't delete on it's own to save a ton of space. It also has a built in registry cleaner that gets rid of invalid registry entries that tend to happen over time.

Also you can use NTREGOPT, this program to defragment the registry itself which can help:

In Windows XP you can click on Start ---> Run and then type in %temp%. This is where alot of temp files are stored for various things, You can delete these files and that might help.

I know my personal PC at the house was running slow as hell, and Spybot S&D found some adware etc, and deleted it, but there was still something wrong, so I downloaded a program called ExterminateIT, and it found all sorts of problems....

Did try several of the above mentioned things then called a friend of mine. His HS aged son took my computer for a couple of days , added 1/2 GB of RAM and it's now the fastest it has ever been.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
