I have not tried that unit. I rely on a set of solar powered witching rods for non conductive pipes. The only problem they present is they do not work at night.

used it before, it's based on a leak detector. i have used my fisher xlt-16 and had someone tap on the pipe in question. i have an air vibrator that i've thought about strapping to a pipe and see if the sound transfers.

These devices do work BUT, many utilities have procedural codes against their use. Utility systems with extensive ACP pipe forbid thumping/pulsing devices on their systems for good reason. ACP pipes can fracture when pulsed or thumped and repair costs can be ugly. In using these devices, you need to be certain of the pipe material, if it is PVC or HDPE, generally there are no worries. Our preference is GPR but there are certainly places where GPR is ineffective and other options must be employed.
