    Default Magnetic Locators

Who all has a magnetic locator in their arsenal? What brand do you like? How often do you use it?

We have a few different ones. Metrotech 880B, Schoenstadt & Magnatrac 100.

Locating buried valveboxes, or boxes that are in vegetation overgrowth...often the best method.

Schonstedt GA-52Cx , works great and comes with a 7 year warranty. Not every area needs one, but the older city areas where inside gas meters are common it gets used everyday to find the curb boxes. I think we have 1 to 2 in each team of our district.

I use the Rycom Magna Stick 101. It is a very durable piece of equiptment but if the valve you're looking for is over 5-6 inches deep don't even bother.

I use my magnetic locator daily. Finding buried gas valves and test stands. I even use it for finding buried fiberglass handholes(the locator picks up on the metal bolts on the lid). I never understood how anyone could work without one.

Not to mention all the bolts, nail, and other metal scraps I dig up while trying to find what I'm actually looking for.

Use one DAILY (when I am actually working). Everyone who locates for our firm carries one in their vehicle.

We use "CST Magnatrack 102" to find water c.c.'s in peoples yards, handholes and of course in older areas the gas curb box as well.

Have gotten pretty good at finding things I do not need to find as well like disposed of rebar, nails, etc. which is always a MOST rewarding experience when one is busy!
