    Default Homeowners...

Why do homeowners ground their utilities together? it is kind of annoying...ex, Fiber doesn't need a ground...
I do like some homeowners though, last week when the one day I forget my flashlight, it was dark and I was using my cellphone as a light, the homeowner come up to me,asks me what I'm doing. Then, he gets his Maglite and stays with me, lighting my path and talking to me (keeping me awake) as I located the property. How nice!

I have never known any homeowner to ground their own utilities. it is usually the tech that grounds everything to a common ground when the initial install takes place. i only have disconnected what ever i was locating, off the common ground only if i was having problems locating it. invisable fence while on was always a problem for me.

Everything has to be grounded to prevent lightning and other electrical spikes from following the lines back to the house and frying everything out or starting a fire. Even the FTTP should be grounded at the house because the tracer wire built in it could potentially let the electrical current back to the house.

To run a separate ground for each utility would make for just a mess and a waste of copper outside the home so a common ground has been used forever.

Try walking around a yard after dark in these parts, you may learn the other use for a MagLite. I hope you knocked first.

That's a walk in the park compared to south Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, or Robbins.
