Not the company's fault for someone being greedy. Quality should always be above productivity. Piece rate is in place to try to increase the pay of a locator while maintaining a good profit for the company. The down side to all this, is that people get greedy and start billing off tickets that haven't been marked, putting the company, yourself, and the excavators at risk. Not sure about other branches of CUS, but just tell them you want hourly pay and they will keep you at that.
The big problem in NC(I don't know about other states) is the contractors calling in the world to be located and only working in a small area. Its killing quality and productivity of the locator, that being me and you, when you have to locate a 2-3 mile stretch of road and its only called in on two maybe three tickets. Whichever the minimum might be to by pass the maximum locate distance rule thats in place for One Call.
