I know nothing will change out of this thread, but there is some progress in my neck of the woods. Some of the newer contracts have been tossed back and forth between companies and I think the low-balling of bids have started to catch up with the damage prevention side of the contract. I have seen where they have changed the verbage in the contracts to bill in 500 to 1000 foot increments.

For example: a 3000' locate can now be billed out for 3 charges (if billing in the 1000' increments) or 6 charges (if billing @ 500' increments)

The sad part is, this means nothing for the Field tech but more paper work. They still get the same # of tickets, and hold overs each day. The company will bill at those increments depending on the contract, but the Locators production is still based on tickets, and you have to hit your quota of 2 tickets an hour for an 8hour day. Sure hope you don't have any marathon locates.

Past performance looks to be about as effective as most unions to me. Not at all.

Please, everyone who knows better than me, answer the questions. Show me why my grocery money should go to this organization.
You're absolutely right. I'm not against unions or associations, they have their merits, but cmon, its locating. The only people to take control and get the power to the locators will be the locators. I think some locate messiah or utility Jesus is needed for y'all

Locators have no say in anything with a company. I say this as a former supervisor.
Good catch Dawg. I edited for thought clarification.
I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.
