    Lightbulb Overtime vs New Employees

My question to you guys is which is better in the long run?

paying overtime to the already few employees that you have ...or

hiring new employees, ( paying their benefits, wages, training, future mistakes, and more of everything else you need to sustain them....ie..equipment, machines, computer etc....

wise men talk because they have something to say and fools because they have to say something....plato

I've never held a management position so I am completely unqualified to make a rational comment on your question... but that has never stopped me before.

It would seem to me that if the overtime needed is in short durations then overtime is the way to go. If you find that overtime is a common thing then new employees might be the answer.

Overtime definitly is the answer, in fact the future mistakes a new locator will make is a great reason to treat your veteran guys with the respect they deserve!

There is a formula that can be used to determine how much overtime justifies adding more employees. Of course, it's based only on the cost factor and doesn't consider the human factor.

If the overtime is a ongoing trend long-term, then it would be logical to bring on one or two new hires IMO.

Use them, abuse them, lose them, delete them. And then repeat.

This is the answer to the 50 4 way locate tickets per day per person of course.

When the number of requests coming in exceed the amount the employees can physically do "even with repeated excessive overtime"..... It is time to get more people. Not work the experienced locators into their graves, but only after they locate said grave site first

Shouldn't you be out on a Comed emergency to replace a pole that has had yellow tape around it for nine months?
