    Default My thoughts

Some of this has been mentioned but I thought I would throw ideas out there.

    1. One of my big complaints with RD equipment is the need to cycle through ever frequency to get to the one you want? 2014 we cant do better technology than that for $5000?

    2. I tried to rig something once for locating...and paint trigger on my receiver. It worked briefly but a professionally produced unit will be better. A double trigger 2 colors/cans would be great. Why not carry your receiver and paint wand in one unit?

    3. After market leads/wires/clips would be great, some that are designed to last. I saw someone build some with cables (stainless I believe) but something better and retractable would be ideal.

I don't know how long I will use this forum, but thought I would leave a few thoughts.

All are good thoughts and worth some discussion.

Alrighty.... I'll kick off the discussion.

    1. One of my big complaints with RD equipment is the need to cycle through ever frequency to get to the one you want? 2014 we cant do better technology than that for $5000? - I absolutely agree with you. Not just with that, but size. We have hard drives the size of cellphones that can hold over 1tb of information. We can't slim down our equipment to weigh something comparable to the 810? As for the scrolling through the frequencies... I thought that the 8k can scroll both directions through the frequencies?

    2. I tried to rig something once for locating...and paint trigger on my receiver. It worked briefly but a professionally produced unit will be better. A double trigger 2 colors/cans would be great. Why not carry your receiver and paint wand in one unit? Not sure why you would want to weigh down your reciever more than it already is? It may be a pretty good idea for guys who don't have to hoof out a mile worth of locates, but I would rather carry the cans in my vest and lighten the load on the arms. Besides, If I got rid of my paintgun.... I think i'd walk crooked.

    3. After market leads/wires/clips would be great, some that are designed to last. I saw someone build some with cables (stainless I believe) but something better and retractable would be ideal. The retractable mechinisim has a tendency to be tempermental when it gets dust and debris in it. After some time in the field you would find your self having a tough time pulling wire out of it or getting the wire to go back into it. As for having leads that don't self implode....Locators tend to treat them like..... well, tools. and sometimes tools break. It would be better/ cheaper to load up on cheaper leads then put a crap load out for a set that will have the same shelf life.

    just my thoughts.

The problem of two paint cans on the receiver is weight. For example the vivax receiver with em finder weighs 6.6 pounds by itself. Add two tall boy cans of paint and hardware you are up around 9 1/2 lbs. Increased fatigue and increased possibility of repetative movement injury.

Not only better leads but ones that can be repaired in the field mostly with a knife to skin insulation and a screw driver. I kept a 50 watt soldering iron in the truck. Plugged it into the inverter and repaired leads in the field. Only set the truck on fire once, only a little fire.

Weight to me is more of distribution of weight. most newer units have more stuff down in the wand so it adds to the swing weight where the 810 had all but the antennas in top of unit.

Paint cans on the receiver I think would mess with the antennas. I worked with a guy that taped a tube for flags on side of receiver and it messed up his locates.

Leads: mostly a problem of relief at the plug. to allow them to bend but not crimp and break.
