    Question Concrete Scanning/Bridge Inspection/GPR Help

I have a client that needs help on a bridge inspection. Last week I took out a GSSI Structure Scan Mini GPR unit but we were not able to see much due to the rebar grid network. They are looking to find anchor bolts in concrete that are holding the I-beams in place. These bolts are 5'-12' overhead, penetrate up to a few feet thick, and are 0.5'-3' deep in the concrete abutments/piers.

Is anyone aware of other equipment or technology that would apply to scanning concrete for bolts behind rebar?

(Access to the concrete involves climbing up a ladder so equipment would have to be handheld).

    Thank you.

    Hey Sub,

this sounds horrible, but I think you are going to find that most handheld antenneas are going to be at a frequency that won't allow the depth needed for the bolts. You are going to need a larger antennea with a better frequency to penetrate the concrete. They may have a rig that will help support the weight of a heavier antenna, but i'm not sure i've seen one.

    good luck.
