Default Utiliquest Workers in DFW Rejoice!

Utiliquest workers in DFW received an early Christmas Bonus this week when their head Honcho for the state was fired. Rumors have it that he was escorted by Security out of the building and off the property where he had to wait in 104 degree heat for someone to come get him.

It is not known at this time why this happened, but rumors are that he lost the Atmos gas contract and/or he was involved in some type of harrassment ( again ).

Come to think of it, we SM&P guys can rejoice also because this was none other than the late, great J.T.!!!

Maybe he will go back to the package delivery business and stay there now.
I might not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was !

Thanks a lot Yahoo!! We are hearing that the contract will be split between USIC and another company. This will suck big time for me.Supposedly, the contract wil include the clause "there is no such thing as an unlocateable gas line" and we will be expected to dig to the elbow for tracer wires ( 3' in most cases )

The only way to accept a contract requiring digging more then a few inches for service tracer wire is an extra charge to cover the employees time, lost productivity and the possible overtime it creates. Even after you dig it up a new length must be spliced in to bring it up to standards and not have to repeat the process, this is a maintenance item, not a locating item.

sorry about that Spray ....was just commenting without totally disrespecting his name...but atmos energy is a good contract..we had no problems with them here...they decided to take their contract back in house....because they was not willing to pay the price for contract locating....they rather pay beans and it seems to be working out for them here!

Sorry about that. I didn't read any of his posts until now. They are all directed at Premo.

Problem is in many states you must call in a locate request BEFORE you can dig down and expose the tracer - digging is digging - digging to expose a tracer wire is not exempt from many one call laws throughout the country. Seems like a catch 22 to me!!

In Colorado if you are doing minor maintenance on your own maintained facility you do not need locates. I.E.: annodes on a gas riser, tracer repair at the riser. It may only apply to facility owners, I don't remember, but this came up a few years ago.

Utiliquest update: Today the DFW area met their new VP that's replacing JT. The word is that e-sketch and all the GPS based locate BS is History. UQ is supposedly going back to plain old locating. It seems their poor on-time results have cost them 1/2 of the Atmos contract which equals 25%
of their business. They are also supposed to implement programs to retain their employees as opposed to canning them as JT was so fond of doing. Since he took over 70% of their current locators have less than 1 year's experience.
