    Default usic training starts tomorrow...

3 weeks of training begins tomorrow. I am pretty nervous, I have never worked for a company that has put employees in a all expense paid hotel / food and offered training for that long of time.

What can I expect? 8 hour training days?

If you have any resources I could study, - I tried looking at a schondstet detector manual to see how it worked, but anything else resource wise that is free, please point it in my direction, I will be studying as much as I can

    Thanks

Try the Aqua-Tronics website out, they have some information.

I've also seen a article about the ABC's of locating.... but can't find the link for it now.

Thanks for the timely response, I will check out the Aqua-Tronics site, their support page: Aqua-Tronics, Inc. | Buried Utility Locating Equipment | Cable Locators | Fault Locators | Primary & Secondary Fault Locators | Leak Detectors seems to have a few resources on utility identification. Was the ABC's resource you were referring to by ditch witch? Ditch Witch - The ABCs Of Utility Damage Prevention

I'll look these over, once again thanks.

Are they still doing the pulse training? If so you will have a lot to read when you get your books.

Yeah, they still have pulse. There is much to read, and much to learn. I am very impressed with this company so far.

Hey brokendreams - Welcome to The Cable Vine and the world of locating utilities - Woo Hoo! I trust your first day with USIC went well.

You will most likely be using the Radio Detection locating equipment. If so, learn from these videos:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

My suggestion to speed up your learning curve is get hooked up with a mentor. Ask your supervisor to pick one with 3 to 5 years experience and feels would be a good match for you. Locators with more experience than that use techniques that would only confuse you. You have to be proficient with the basics of locating before you go for the shortcuts.

Warning! Do not use your supervisor as a teaching mentor. Supervisors make terrible mentors for many reasons:
1.) Sups ain't got the time to mentor.
2.) When Sups do mentor, it's always the slowest method possible.
3.) Sups will NEVER teach you a short-cut.
4.) Sups make a noob mark the ENTIRE scope of the ticket.... UGH!
5.) Most Sups do not understand the deepest levels of all the prints.
6.) Most supervisors got that job because they couldn't cut it as a locator!

Anyway, thanks for joining The Cable Vine, good luck on your new career and please post often!
