    Default Owners and Recruiters!

This is for the company persons who hide on this site to see what employees and others are doing (not those who ARE here and admit it).

When people take the time to fill out applications for positions within your respective companies that they are QUALIFIED for. Have the decency and respect to either SEND AND EMAIL OR MAKE A PHONE CALL with some information good or bad to that person.

IGNORING applicants or ACTUALLY CONTACTING applicants THEN IGNORING said applicants is THE WRONG WAY TO DO BUSINESS!!!

It's common courtesy and SHOULD be the foundation for your respective companies.

WITHOUT APPLICANTS AND EMPLOYEES YOU AND ONLY YOU LOSE OUT!

I know SM&P used to be guilty of this - probably getting even for the newbies who didn't show for class.

Speaking of 'Getting Even'. That is ANOTHER problem that falls along this same line.

Companies who REFUSE to re-hire. Now I understand that if an individual is fired from a position the lack of wanting to re-hire. Trust me there is one company here in the north east I was fired from and EVEN IF THEY CALLED ME IT WOULD BE A COLD DAY IN HELL I WOULD GO BACK (I know your reading it so A BIG middle finger goes to you).

But what about individuals who for personal reasons or say they knew that the company they were working for was losing ALL of their contracts and DID THE RIGHT THING by submitting a 2 weeks notice and the parting was amicable? Does that person deserve to NEVER be given the chance to work for that company again?

Or is this just a way for someone to 'Get Even'?

As someone who has done a LOT of job hunting in the past, I agree! BUT! A hotel/water park down by me had a job fair to fill 30-40 open jobs. (housekeeping, waiters, basic support stuff) Nothing "skilled", nothing great for pay. ($9-11 hr I think) They had over 750 applications taken by 3 pm and the fair went until 8!!! Estimates were well over1000 people by the time it was done, they had to add another day to catch up on the interviews. How long o you think it is gonna take to call all of them and tell them "no thanks"?
While I HATE being ignored, I understand why.

Phoenix... this happened in my neck of the woods

AUL.. When I put my notice in at the last company I worked for, (small private company) I was imediately called by the owners significant other and in one 5 min conversation i was told "you are the best locator we ever had." which was great. Untill she ended the call with "But, we will never hire you again."

That being said, I believe in re-hiring depending on the person... there is a few locators around I wouldn't hire, let alone, re-hire.

Well, their starting pay is $6.00 more per hr than USIC's - in DFW that is.

Just think about it yahoo. Water meter reading is a crappy job. You have to be able to find that lid (usually covered by leaves, dirt, mud, ice, snow, dog shit, crap & whatever else), open it with your hook, be able to read from a standing position the small, 6 digit numbers 2 foot deeper than ground level, accurately post that number on a small, hand held computer while you are flipping the lid back in place with your hook. You've got to do it in all types of weather, on uneven ground, and go meter-to-meter (cover the same distance) at the same speed as people normally walk on the sidewalks. And the Coup de grâce (French for death blow), there is no overtime budgeted for meter readers!

I, for one, just ain't interested. Well, at least not for today.........

    The Scoop...

I took a year off from locating and became an electrical meter reader.

It was great... I got paid 23.64 an hr. We were given Routes that were time estimated by the slowest people in the world. Not including lunch, we had to work for 7.5hrs a day. You were expected to read a 7.5hr route in one day, however if you finished the route in....lets say 5hrs.. you had a 2.5hr lunch. Some of you might say that is cheating the company... but there were utility Reps who couldn't complete those routes in the 7.5hrs. The down side was the Ghetto and the Dogs. We carried pepper spray for both. I have personally been bit by two dogs, and threatened to be shot by two different homeowners. We couldn't work over time, but at 23 bucks an hr, didn't really have to. The weather and terrain is no different then locating. I got to a point I could read mechanical meters from appx 30ft away unaided (no binoculers).

    a little insight

Our gas readers seem to work full time for 4 to 5 months then get laid off so National Grid can 'estimate' the bill until they are forced to do a 'true' read again. Total scam bullshit. Oh and if you move into a new place without a true read being done your bill is 'estimated' usage from the previous tenant. Again total scam bullshit.

AUL, it is B.S. When Homeowners refused to let us read the meters, they didn't realize that it gave the utility the right to "estimate" the usage... which was usually 2 to 3 times higher then usual. I Tried my hardest to get to and read all the meters on a route. But I have seen other Readers skip houses do to imaginary dogs, just to save time on routes.

Now they are automating the system and it will all be left to computers and engineers to figure out how much you should pay.
