I think you may be over/under estimating the arm it still takes plenty of meter readers. My area moved some to the meter shop some to service and some retired. They didnt lay 1 person off and a couple depts are still short handed
at com ed you have the meter dept and the meter reading dept. 2 different depts. there is about 1 meter tech for every 25 meter readers at the big locations in the suburbs theres 1 maybe 2 meter techs and anywhere from 10 to 20 meter readers. they dont need many meter techs to swap and turn off electric except in cut off season which they usually pull a reader or 2 in the spring to help the techs. this is the same job that i turned down today for we energies in milwaukee.
USIC is fixing to lose some folks.. Much better than average locators..

You know the worst part is they would rather us all quit. That way they can bring in cheaper help. It makes them no difference what your skill level is or how good you are at your job. They way I see it, the only way to hurt them is in the pocket book.
I have added a new way of doing things. Slow and easy I will not cause damages but Im sure as hell not going to bust my ass to put more money in there pockets. Why should I. If anyone knows someone that got that bonus money last year ask them how much it was. I know 2 guys that got it and each of them received 800 dollars split in two checks. That's right 2 400 dollar checks. Take the taxes out and you do the math.
Tell me again how are we in this together!!! If together means they get rich and we get F###ed!!!!

What I find interesting is how they decided that there were no more raises. Instead, a "pay for performance" has now been set in place.
I seem to remember when this first happened a few years ago, people were putting off the large jobs as long as possible in order to hit high production. Damages started happening, and ZIP!!! Suddenly, no more bonuses. I understand cost cutting, and increasing production, but how can you increase production without happy employees? Whipping a mule does not always get it to move.
