CENTRAL LOCATING SERVICE, LTD.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

POSITION(S): Damage Prevention Specialist No Re-location assistance available

DIVISION(S): Ft Lauderdale & Miami FL (30 positions available)

REPORTS TO: Field Supervisor

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Hourly

WORK HOURS: Monday - Friday 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM - Off as required; O/T as required

Job Description

· To perform a locate according to the Standard Operating Procedures of the company. This includes taking the time to thoroughly search for underground plant in an area, to properly mark the location, to complete the necessary paperwork, and to photograph each locate.

· To perform a locate in a safe and law abiding manner.
· To route work in an efficient and cost effective manner.
· To present the proper company image by wearing proper attire and by having clean and well-groomed appearance. To portray a positive and constructive attitude with customers.

· To operate assigned vehicles in a safe and law abiding manner.
· To properly maintain, keep clean and orderly the assigned vehicle to minimize damage and repair costs.
· To properly use and maintain all location and safety equipment to minimize damage and repair costs.
· To keep all prints updated and filed neatly in accordance with company standards.
· To satisfactorily perform work in a time period that minimizes overtime.
· To use all supplies in a cost efficient and non-wasteful manner.
· To work in other areas when required.
· All other duties and assignments given by the Field Supervisor or Field Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report
Employment conditional upon passing a drug test
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to work outside
High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Skills

Ability to use a lap top (will train)
Ability to read a map/blueprint

Boy there is alot of rules around here. I hope I dont get busted by the Forum Police. I have never seen some much control over what people say around here. I even had a crazy women acuse me of being someone else. Must have been a old lover LOL !!!!

The fact that they can never straighten out either hell holes- Florida or Chicago means a good possibility your days would be numbered accepting a position there...And the big question would be why??? Isnt like the compensation is attractive...

They try to band aid the areas temporarily with manpower but the track record is just to entrenched to change...

The only worthwhile option to attract someone to put up with these areas requires alot more than what they put on the table and even after that look what you have to look forward to...Obviously a broken system...

So many bridges burned- Places like these should have had greater support way back when and created a way to establish tenured locators that NEW WHAT WAS IN THESE TOUGH AREAS, before getting fed up and cut up and gone...Maybe the money factor isnt right with the contracts in these areas...Any good locator with half a brain getting paid good somewhere else would be a fool to even consider risking such a challenge in these areas...

Management needs to rethink the locating in these areas and implement tag teams with senior junior personnel working together...That maybe a start to a new approach to overhauling a failed system and track record...

But I m sure the numbers and management bumblers havent changed there thinking and continue running the same tapes instead of developing a fresh strategy...

not really. I put a section in the forum for jobs so when you click on it, it would take you straight to the job site.

Yes we did get a new contract......... No the problems are not as bad as they used to be........... And yes the risks a quality locator takes just to do his job down here are insane!!!!!! We need thirty people because we're spread pretty thin with the absolute bare minimum for our ticket load to try and save some dough. It's going to be an interesting position we are getting prepared to work 28 days straight starting monday.......... Fun stuff!!!!

CLS "stole" the at&t contract from ELM for South Florida, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, all the South Florida work ELM had.

By "stole" I mean, CLS went after the contract very aggressively and got it, leaving ELM in their wake.

what is with the no re-location assistance crap? atleast smp would help with that. sounds like no veteran would take it without financial help from the company!

Actually, I don't know of any locate company that pays for relocation for technicians unless they offer a bonus for a "Start-up" area.

SM&P has in the past. If they ask for transfers, they give assistance. It is alot to ask for someone to pick up and move to another state without help. But I will probably be down helping out after I get back from Chicago.
