We always did 30 ft. into (or is that away from?...either way up the road that intersects) intersections here, unless the request specifies farther at specific roads.
Character is what you are in the dark. It is the things you do, when nobody can see, and nobody will ever know, that define who you are as an individual.

The contract locators are usually told 150' in all directions when given an intersections.
I usually call to figure out what they are doing in the intersections and i'll mark accordingly. It doesn't make sense to mark 300' of utilities if you don't have to.
If it is for DOT's do they have Survey Stakes up? you can read the stakes to figure where there stopping and starting points are and type of work to take place.

Just what they ask for.
If we have a question, we call.
If you build good relationshiips with your contractors, they'll usually give you the real dig area.
Communications build good relationships with your contractors. Taking that extra step to show you are committed to the highest standards of quality will reward your locating efforts time and time again. Locating intersection vary anywhere from 50' in all directions to 200'.

Sorry Yahoo,
If the contractor is a prick, he's a prick. What we used to do was team up with a Utility Locator (works for the utility) and would work with him to push the contractor to narrow down his scope. The Utility guys have a little bit more backing when it comes to telling the contractors to narrow the scope.

Unless it's the util calling it in! (no more comment, I KNOW my boss is on here!)
My sup is REAL good @ with stuff like this He's great @ jumping on contractors (when needed) then giving them a little ego stroking to calm them down. Normally it's whatever the ticket says, and or 50' past the premarks. HOWEVER! we have one "contractor" who calls in areas you KNOW he won't be working. if he is working on a line to one house, he isn't digging next door even if the ticket says he is.
can read b/w the lines real well!!!! hahahah
