Default Colorado Springs Utilities - Upcoming job position

Hey everybody, I wanted to let you know about an upcoming opportunity with us for a Damage Prevention Locating Specialist.

Right off, let me say that this is probably the best job I have ever had, and it could be the same for one of you.

We locate Gas, Electric, H2o, Waste Water, our own Fiber, as well as anything you can imagine on our own facilities/plants.

Our management (former locators) believes in providing us with the best tools and equipment to do our job right.

Management also has our back. As long as we do our job to the best of our ability, we never have to wonder if we will be supported.

Our company has not ever laid off an employee so far, and it is a very old company as far as utilities go, think 75+ years. Tesla provided the city with power way back in the day.

We are a municipality, meaning that we pay into PERA for retirement. Health benefits are awesome, my last doctors visit only cost $35.

Best of all, we are not concerned about profits. Our locating department is concerned with protecting our customers, contractors, and infrastructure. This translates into being concerned about accuracy, not speed and quantity of work completed.

Now, as to the job itself: This position is not going to be for a beginner. It is for the locator who is confident that they can locate nearly anything, and can back it up. This position will locate Emergency Locate requests, perform damage investigations, and help out wherever needed. There may be additional projects, meetings, and ...um stuff, that you may have to do as part of the job.

Keep in mind that you will be joining a crew that have, for the most part, been locating for somewhere near a decade if not far longer.

Why am I posting like this, instead of waiting for the posting to go on the locator jobs? Because as a municipality we always have to post our jobs in the same manner through our web site.

The job posting will most likely go up on Monday. When it does I will post a link to it.

If you are an awesome locator, and want a good salary, benefits, job security, and would consider moving here, please consider applying. I would love to work with you.

We usually have at the least an 810, 850, EMS marker locator and a metal detector in each truck. We have a few vivax and some RD's. Metrotech is the standard though. We need to induce a lot so everyone has and uses 810's regularly.

We are always looking at new equipment as well. I believe there is only a few pieces of equipment we haven't demo'd. Case in point, we just purchased our first couple of Pipehorns recently(Thank you, David Dodd) based on locator recommendation.

Most of our vehicles are 2006 or newer F-150's with toppers. We also have a few vans. I haven't had to buy any of my own tools yet, if it's not in the warehouse, and I can make a reasonable case, my sup will usually get it for us.

The area is also pretty awesome. We have Pikes Peak right on the outskirts of the city, Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain, National Forest up to the city limits, and great wildlife. I've seen turkey, pronghorn's, Mule deer, white tail deer, and elk sometimes in the same day.

It is great to hear from someone who is so enthusiastic and confident in the company that he/she works for. Sounds like the kind of company I would love to be a part of. I have well over 25 years experience in this industry and I already reside in Colorado. I am ready, willing and able to start work immediately for the reason being that the last company that I worked for decided to get out of contract locating altogether. At this point in my career, what is most important is finding a great company to work for who appreciates all that I have to offer and job security. I will check back for the opportunity to apply for this position. In the meantime, can I ask the name of your company? Thanks!

It's taking longer than expected for it to post. I have it on good authority that it should be up by the end of the day. Don't worry, as soon as it goes up I will post a link.
I hope I get to welcome someone to this great area.

I applied as soon as the job posted. Will the company be waiting until the posting closes to contact potential candidates for interviews?
