    Default Cheating

How many of you cheat your Company out of hours? For example if you have three hour of tickets and you milk them for eight hours for a full days of work.

And let me guess...........You wonder why you didn't get a good raise.

I've been working very limited hours but that's part of working an outdoor job in the midwest. Bank some money next summer and take lay-off next winter.

The great thing is that those of us who approve your "milked" hours have already ran your area before you came on the scene. Therefore, you will be called on the carpet for a 2 hour locate on a stop sign install. If you work the winter it is very easy to pick apart each locate you do. Have a nice day.

Well, if you don't want to do the job, then find another line of work. Your attitude is the type that just kills a team. For you to even say that, means that you actually practice it. I've seen many of your kind come and go over the years. Good Luck!

That's what we refer to as "Old School" locating down here - back when we had paper tickets and Supervisors stayed home most of the time. Now, with all of the info that Management has at their fingertips, anyone who practices that type of "time management" is going to be followed around a lot more than he/she would like.

I don't mean any disrespect to those of you that do this type of stuff (heavily milk the clock) but if I catch you doing it around here I'm gunning to get you outta here. You're only a detriment to your crew and your company, although I will say that some people can get away with murder around here with supervisors and district managers knowing about it and have nothing done to them. I see it all the time, so obviously certain areas can be exploited, yet still I do my job the right way. What's wrong with me?

I always told my trainees and newer techs that there's just some shortcuts you need to learn for yourself and some on the job information that you need to keep to yourself. Chicagoman, this is the type of information you should be keeping to yourself.

We had a Supervisor build a garage last summer while his locator's were working hard out in the field. Nothing has changed. We do have locator's milking there hours. I really dont care or am I surpised. I feel when employee are treated like S**T. Thats what you get. It is not my job to play locator or supervisor police. I have talk to management in the past about these issue during training classes and it goes in one ear and out the other. So I get the message I am here to locate utilities and thats it. And thats what I do. No More No Less.

i believe ....this is my opinion....that most people in this career and any other career strive to do the best or the right thing...and in time .....they will learn either the hard way or the easy way......my meaning is this ....they all ...we all will learn eventually to do the right thing or the best thing......in the meantime honesty to yourself should be the first stepping stone to a better life.....i agree with Big Boots ...we should all strive to be better!!!!!!

Sometimes I get up on my soapbox and forget the simple fact that I am only a locator. I should just go do my job, get paid, and go home, right? Normally I'd say yes, but in an industry where other people's poor performance can affect whether or not you or your company has a job in the future I've got to say no. That's the only reason I try to hold people accountable out here. I'd love to just go out and get mine and go home without any worries, but the fact is that the knuckleheads out there can ruin it for everyone. If a tech, supervisor, or anyone in management is doing an inferior job and it may result is the loss of a contract or market entirely it needs to be addressed, with whoever can make a difference. If you value your job and how you do it, you should voice your concerns rather than turn the other cheek and continue to do so until something changes. Although, I will agree that when an employer continuously treats it's employees poorly that it results in things like this. I just wish at some point they would come out and say, "We really don't care about you or your integrity, just shut up and get the job done", because that's how things certainly how things look when they condone stealing/milking the clock.

I like it when people milk the clock. It helps me distribute the raises when evaluations come around. Well rounded locators are better paid than locators that are not consistent with their averages. With the amount of data available to supervisors with our company, it's really very easy to spot the milkers. I just print it out, and wait until their eval comes up, then show them the data.

To specifically answer your question though, I think the majority of locators take pride in doing the best they can, and don't milk the clock. Everyone has at some point or another to some degree, but in general, I don't think it happens very often.

Well yeah , it sucks. You're in Riverside.

    Just pullin' your chain man....

    However.....

For those of you who don't know, Riverside is a western suburb of Chicago that is famous for it's impossible to navigate street and numbering system. I can only imagine that it must be the "penalty box" for the bad locators of the near west side. I used to work for a delivery service in Chicago years ago, and if you had the route in Riverside it would make you as nutty as a shithouse rat by the end of the day......
