    Default Hello from Utah

Just found your site. I am a locator in Utah and kinda new to locating. So far so good. I misplaced my ground stake and am using my spare, but miss my primary stake.

Where can I buy new stakes? The one I had was a "T" shape and my leads clipped to it nicely.

I am glad to see there is a place to go for help and other support.

    Mel

Find a power or cable crew and ask them if they have a grounding rod. If not then go and get a cheap long screwdriver from Harbor Freight. You can also get one here:

    Probes - Loaded Commerce

    USABlueBook - Ground Probes

They both have just about everything you need.

Go to any hardware store that sells lumber and get a couple of 10 or 12 inch decking nails for about a dollar each. If the earth is soft they push right in and if hard, rocky or frozen ground they can be pounded in with a hammer. Hammering a conventional ground rod tends to bend them out of shape plus they do not pound in very well.

If your near a mechanic's garage, a muffler or welding shop, you can walk in with two bars and if they aren't busy they can pop them together for you in less than a minute and make a T handle. Half the time they won't bother to charge you. Then again, UULC is right. A cheap giant flat head screwdriver works just as well.

welcome to the vine. Glad you found us.

I'm currently using a screwdriver... flathead. works great and the handle makes it easy to push into the ground.

I use a Copper ground rod that the Local Cable TV contractor provided. I also have screw drivers and a Tee Bar that i made.
