Default Greetings from a long time lurker

Hey there, long time lurker here, great great forum, very informative especially in regard to which companies have secured which contracts.

I work for several cable companies as a recovery agent. Its my job to bill excavators and locate companys who are liable for damages to our plant. It tends to be an interesting job. I work for TWC, Charter and Comcast in various locations in the lower 48. Have been doing this for 9 years, enjoy the industry, but not so much the politics

Anyways kudos to all you good locators because god knows we have enough bad ones out there.

Glad you decided to post. I've been doing this job for many years and have never met a recovery agent. I didn't really know they existed.

I'd like to hear more about your side of the industry. Got any good stories? Any gotcha damage investigation stories?

    Post often.

Thanks Steve. Yea, I come across some amazing stuff doing this. From 100k fiber trunk cuts to drops, I've seen it all when it comes to CATV.

Funny tidbit from this today is I took a claim for about 8k in the LA area. No one to bill though. Thieves actually hooked thier truck up to a copper SoCal Gas line and pulled out about 300 ft of it. Naturally my feeder was above it and got ripped out as well.

Yeah, how s it going and welcome...

I have seen employment adds related to this line of work... You may get paid on a call out basis and have to be available for responses 24-7 ???

Does your company correspond directly to the third party locate sub companys aka Usic, Utiliquest etc.
to hash out liability issues on behalf of the clients you represent?

Does the company you work for just gather data ONLY on behalf of the clients they represent and the client pursues the liable party? does your company get greater compensation for finding and collecting damages independently from the liable parties that are at fault?

I knew this segment exists but don't know the scope of what occurs...

I may had pursued interest in the past openings but did nt want to be a 24-7 callout part time worker...

So just wondering how much or little these third party damge investigating outfits get involved in the process...

I'm sure some of the local recyclers will know who they are.
