I'm unaware of any real online research for locating. Learning is more of a hands on thing. The first few weeks will just be learning the record reading and locating theory in the classroom and then it's into the snow you go.

Congrats on getting the job and good luck with the learning process. The only thing I can say is don't get discouraged, it isn't something you'll learn overnight. I've been locating for about 14 years and still continue to learn new things.

Joe is good trainer, he'll give you everything you need to get through training. Pass the tests and get out in the field, the senior techs will take it from there.

    Welcome!

I am interested in applying with USIC. But having trouble contacting them to ask a couple questions.
Can somebody please tell me where the training takes place?--i.e. do you have to relocate somewhere for 4 to 6 weeks for training?
Or do the train you in the location where you will be working?
Also, once they agree to hire you, how flexible are they on your starting date for training?
    Thanks!

Training usually takes place at the district office. I have had new trainees stay in a motel at their expense for the week if they were a couple of hours drive away. Training times are a set date when they have a class ready. The jobs are for the district area so depending on the size of the district it could be one person or five.

Never heard of someone having to pay for their own hotel rooms while during training. I know the new guys here havent ever had to pay for the room. Only thing that they may have to put up front for is food and gas (if driving personal vehicle) but that is reimbursed as you are giving a per diem per day.
