Welcome to the Vine John.
I know a little about your company. Definately love the philosophy of it.
Don't let all of our posts scare you. From what I have seen so far your doing a good job of getting right in there.

Welcome John. I am looking forward to hearing more about you and your company.
I believe I know you Mr. Cook or should I say know of you. Were you appointed to the State Corporation Commission this term? If I am not mistaken there were two open positions? Excuse me... There were three, two locators and one excavator position available.
Good to have you here!!!Welcome to the show John!!! It' always nice to have some one here with that kind of time on the BISS.

I wasn't appointed although I did put my name in the hat twice now. Brett Ramsey of DeTech resigned last year when DeTech was purchased by Consolidated and an employee of ECSM was appointed to fill that vacancy through the end of 2008. David Doyle of Consolidated and Thurmon Smith of Utiliquest were appointed to represent Contract Locating for the next two years. In addition to the two contract locating positions, there was an Operator position and an Excavator position up this term. David Gatling of Virginia Natural Gas was appointed as the Operator but I am not sure who got the Excavator spot.
It should be of great concern to all of us that the Director of the Virginia SCC Division of Utility & Railroad Safety has held the Chair of that Committee for many years now (I believe at least 8 to 10 years?). Since his Division has direct or indirect regulatory control over 9 of the 13 positions on the Advisory Committee, the Committee cannot function as designed or intended. I have attended many Committee meetings over the past two + years, only to see excavators walk out virtually unscathed and locate companies bear the brunt of the negative action because nobody will speak up. Just as "Karen" said in another post yesterday - people are afraid to say anything because they know what will happen to them. I have been and will continue to be very vocal in my opposition to the current structure until the Committee can (in my most humble opinion) be free to act as designed by the Legislature.
Thanks for the welcome!

Denham Springs, huh?
Ever been to Prejeans over in Lafayette? How about Middendorfs over towards Hammond? Do you know a guy that works for Level 3 named Jody Breaux?
I spent a ton of time over that way when I was doing fiber work for Charter and locating for Level 3. I moved to north Georgia after Katrina, and can't find a decent soft-shell crab anywhere around here.....
Thanks for the welcome!
