Default FNG offered a position at USIC... Input?

Hey my name is Josh 26 years old new prospect to this line of work. I currently manage a moving company but only pull in about 33k a year. Sick of being behind a desk (Thanks to the damn army) and I want to make more money for the family. My first question is is us if a good place to work? I have read all the reviews but most of them are whiney people complaining about hard work. My question is ... Is it hard work or unfair work? Is number that are unattainable etc..... My second question is about slow season.... I'm in ARIZONA so would I run into the same issue they have up north? Any advice on jumping into this line of work?

If you are stuck behind a desk because of a physical condition this may not be for you.

You can be pretty banged up and still do this work.
You can make more money but at the cost of home life, it will take overtime to make greater than 33k a year. Since you are starting out with no experience expect to make a base income of maybe 27k. But factoring in a company drive home vehicle adds some pretty much tax free dollars.

Can you work 20+ hours ot a week? I am a supervisor and am looking at my groups timesheet from last week. I have one guy who put in 62 hours and there would be 10 more hours if Monday had not been a holiday. This guy was not doing oncall after hours emergency tickets last week.

They look whiney to you, because you have no idea what kind of work we do. I used to think these locators had it easy back when I was slinging drywall and operating a boom-truck. You don't understand how hard the work is until you get into it. A lot of physical, mental ability is used with heavy dose of stress on the backside.

Stay where you are, if you truly are at the 33K mark pushing pencils.

    That's my 2 pennies...

I've worked many "hard" jobs including a couple hours in Afghanistan the work doesn't scare me at all. (hence where my whiney comment stems from) I sit behind a desk due to promotion. I currently work 55-60 hours a week and don't get ot so actually getting paid for it would be nice. I went to the interview and they offered me a spot at 13.50 it's a pay cut but I'm weighing the options of working ot. I've looked into the work and its definitely a nice change. My main concern is the company and the complaints about them.

You have to look at what you will be gaining and what you might be losing. At $33K based on the 2080 hr work week you are making $15.86 an hr. I do not know the cost of living in AZ. A pro of being a locator you save wear and tear on your pov, and about $4K in gas for work travel. AZ is probably busy so you would be looking at a 50-60 work week. Loss of some weekends. Being oncall for a week. The biggie is loss of holidays at times because of the oncall. Missing the kids soccer games, birthday parties because of either work or oncall. So the coin might be good with all the OT, but is it worth it to miss out of things with the family. IF you need more $$ try a PT job.

Whinning.....lol.....122 tickets with 34 lates. Getting my ass chewed for reasons thats beyond my control. Dont show up to an emergency and have them tearing you a new ass. Missing everything that involves family. Basically being confined to your house when on call(because we all know its when you start to do something is when you are called out) Summers gone!!! Winters are a struggle. Not to sound like im whinning but if youre not into locating I wouldnt start lol. Exp usic for 13.50 and hour. Ask yourself this, How much is your sould worth? Because locating is gonna suck it right out of you lol. And USIC its also gonna suck the life right out of ya.

By no means i mean any disrespect its just you honestly dont know what youre getting into until its too late. It looks easy as hell from a far or atleast i thought so.
