Default Any yoopers work for USIC? Or any in MI?

I also posted a thread in the Company thread with questions about the company

I interview on Monday so I got a few questions

I've heard so much about some areas being great to work and some suck

What about training? Is it on the job training or in a class? Is the full wage paid during training?

if anybody has any input that would be great

not for sure about your area up north but down this way ...training is like training anywhere else ....cram as much as possible in 3 weeks to hurry and get you in the field ...it is mostly class work but there is some hands-on training in the field and yes the full wage you was hired on at will be paid the whole time in training ! some areas willl be harder than others but you ALWAYS will start at the bottom so your area you first get you may not like but soon enough you'll get an area you like ...like close to your house area....that is really nice !!! Good Luck !

Whats the nearest large city. There will most likely be a class there. They put you up in a hotel and give per diem for food etc. not all bad. I would say the u.p. would be pretty slow in the winter but you can usually travel south on the company dime if you want otherwise RIF (seasonal lay off) they pay unemployment not sure about insurance.

Yeah thats the thing, being that we are so secluded I know I would probably have to travel for training but I wonder where I would have to go the nearest larger city in MI is about 7-8 hours away but if they bunch the UP with Northern WI like many companies do the travel would be a lot less

wherever you end up going ...as Orange said....they are going to pay for you while you are there at hotel...hotel paid, per deim paid, and your 8 straight hours paid ....you can't lose !!! For the first couple of weeks you will have to use your personal vehicle but after that they will put you in the last car left at the shop....the extra one ....

If you live in eastern part of the UP you should be training in Grand Rapids. Also when you go to training don't tell them your on this site. They won't like that to much.

It is paid tranning. Depending on the area you are put in, it could be good or it could be bad. One thing for sure is the areas that are already taken will not be given up by the locator that works it, because they are already familiar with what is in their area. OH! And the tranning you recieve in the classroom will only help with 10% of the job, the rest is useless. The training in the field can also be called "Thrown to the sharks" "Fed to the wolves" Depending on the guys in your area if they are supportive to you or not.
