Whoa John! Please. I don't want to mislead you. I am a hourly paid locator guy working for USIC. All my equipment is provided by my employer. I do not own any locate equipment myself. I couldn't get away with selling anything out the back of my truck without severe repercussions............. just sayin.'

I use all the above equipment performing my duties at USIC. I could not imagine using anything but a Radio Detection 8000 receiver as my main line locator. I have the TX-10 (10 watt) transmitter for my RD 8000 receiver, but I prefer the Radio Detection T1 (1 watt) transmitter for its lighter weight:

Back in '14, I fried my last RD T1 transmitter hooking up to a street light hot wire instead of the neutral wire. I don't think my first line is gonna get me another one to burn up any time soon...................... just sayin.'

I have used the full 10 watts maybe twice since 2009. I have used the 5-watt setting maybe twice a month locating stubborn water mains and big gas mains. Every hook-up I start with either one or 2 watts.

From the beginning, I would go through +/- 20 D-cell batteries a week. When I began using the above rechargeable battery packs, my experience has been a re-charge lasts about 3 weeks for both the TX-10 transmitter and the RD 8000 receiver; it's the only way to fly. Luv Ya Man!
