Default Re: Wanted - Metrotech 810, Pipehorn, etc.

It uses the 810s leads but I tried the 810 clamp on Friday and it didnt seem to work...

As for the charger it reads- input 120v.60Hz
    output 6vdc@800mA

    plug side says- pri: 120v.60Hz.15w
    sec:6vdc@800mA
It also has the name Engineering Design and Sales Danville, Va 24541
    E.D.S. model # 5863

Good luck protect that reciever head or the stem that you hold onto...

As far as the transmitter goes- I bought a flat piece stock 1/4" by 3/4" x 5' piece of aluminum from Home Depot... I drilled a 1/4" hole in the center of the handle and at the two ends of the aluminum and make a D circle of the flat stock... Somwhat did the same with the 810 to duplicate the handle/convenience of the pipe horn... I essentially twist it into a D form so's when you lay the transmitter sideways against risers the handle protrudes up on the side as well as in the upright position-you dont have to bend over so far and in general as often making daily transmitter placements less evasive on the back... I almost always double place a transmitter when locating inductively anyway to keep the verification of the targeted facility honest... You almost have to replace the transmitter from drawing on the reciever rather than the targeted facility unless one chooses to fudge the last 6 or 8 ft... Depends on the the need of accuracy at that point of the locate...

Thanks USIC1, Greatly appreciated. I think I have a variable voltage power supply here that will work. Btw, the issue regarding retractable leads that you had mentioned in another thread is being dilligently worked on by myself. I'm making a set for my 810 and a set for the RD4000 , and now I'll probably make a set for the surelock as well.

You ll have to snap a shot of that apparatus... I cant imagine the uniqueness of how it would be contrived...

Anything I would consider would be to bulky to attach and tote around...

I could picture something related to a retractable shop plug that you hang from a ceiling...

Let me know how it turns out...

Hey USIC1, I found a variable voltage power supply, but it's only 600 mA , not 800 mA . ANyways, I'm trying to charge the transmitter battery, but it doesn't seem to be taking a charge. When yours is completely dead, and you plug the charger in, how long does it take before you can get it to power up? Immediately?, or does it take awhile?

The retractable leads are a lot simpler than you'd think, I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

    I dont know...

The strength bars never go down after a weeks worth of locates...

But I still charge it on the weekends for 5hrs or so...

One weekend I turned it on high power over and over again(it cycles off every so often) to judge how long it would take to kill the battery, and why I never saw thestrength bars drop after so much use...

It took forever to kill it!!!

    Like 6 hrs...

Anyway I know the charger gets real hot when its charging...

So if that helps, cant say much else...

Hopefully the battery is still good... If it isnt I bet it costs a fortune to replace...

I called a guy today that used to work for us, but went to work for Heath Consulting a couple of years ago. He said to open up the transmitter and check the fuse, and sure enough it was blown. Anyways, I replaced it tonight and now its charging..... Hopefully I have a little "magic" waiting for me tommorrow morning. Anyways, if I do end up needing a battery, at least he can get me a wholesale price on it. He said the chargers are only like 10 bucks.

P.S. - USIC1, you know a guy by the name of Tony P. that delivers for Papa Johns? If so, I think we share a mutual friend.

Dude, when did you get the 5 bar status? I missed that somehow.
I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.
