Well it occurred to me that since the new forum started we are missing one of our Kansas City viners. Wingfoot is here but is the other KC locator here. Maybe he's here but under a new username. I have his direct connect number so I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Yes - Sooner & I are both Kansas City locators. Sooner has a full plate during the summer. That's part of the reason we haven't heard much from Sooner lately.

His 9-way area (soon to be a 10-way area) used to be 2 separate areas. The sup at the time ran off a good locator whose area butted up to Sooner's. Then Sooner had to run 2 areas. This happened just when SBC decided to locate their own utilities. At the time it didn't matter that Sooner's area doubled. It went from being a 9-way area w/SBC to being an 8-way area w/o SBC.

When SBC let us continue to locate their utilities here, Sooner's area remained it's doubled size. Only he just gained another utility; it went from an 8-way area back to a 9-way area.

I don't know how he does it. Sooner has 3 full AT&T wire centers and in a couple places a part of 2 more wire centers. It's in the 'Hood and a portion of the Downtown area of Kansas City, Missouri. There are no prints for the street lights (these are owned by the City and is separate billed from power). The CATV, telephone and power prints of his area can be a challenge, even for a seasoned veteran. The on-call duty for his team is brutal. All nighters are common on weekdays as well as all day long into the night during weekends in the summer.

Locator timing is critical in Sooner's area. The 'Hood stays quite from 6am to 3pm. That's when traffic is heavy Downtown. Sooner sez it's an easy area to run, but I know better.
