Question Who is good at math?

    Per CGA Damage Reporting Tool.

There were 244,550 total reported damages with a valid locate request in 2013 for the USA.
The locator was at fault 16% of the time.

So, the locator was responsible for 53,600 Damages in 2013.

What is the locator's Damages per 1,000 tickets?

    Thanks.

If the locator was at fault 16% of the time out of 244,550 damages there would have been 39,128 locator caused damages. 244,550 x .16= 39,128.
If locators were responsible for 53,600 damages out of 244,500, it was their fault 22% of the time. 53,600 / 244,550 = .2191780822

To figure damages per 1000 tickets we need to know the total number of locate requests for the year.

Greetings Nb22x! To arrive at a damage ratio of damages per 1,000 tickets, there is a vital part of the equation missing - the quantity of valid locate requests during 2013. Surely that number is in the billions............ just sayin'.

The CGA DIRT report says that there were 13 million valid ticket requests (calls not actual tickets). That is also from only 40 of the 58 one call centers (total requests) and damages are only reported from 21 one call centers.

Thanks guys. This is in preparation for my Damage investigator application.
Sorry, I guess what I'm looking for is a more specific and SIMPLE statistic for the individual locator.

    for example:
    I had 2 damages in 8,008 tickets.
    a ratio of 0.0002497

What would my average #of damages per 1,000 tickets be based on my 8,008 tickets completed?
I'll get the the national average next.

    My brain hurts.... :-)

I suck at math see if this makes sense 1 damage every 4004 tickets so to get to per 1000 it would be 4 Divide 1 damage by 4 would it be .25 damages per 1000 ?.

16% of 224,550 is 39128. Not 53,600. then you would just divide 39,128 by 1000.

    39.128 damages per 1000. I think it's that simple.

    As to my 8.576? Uh......Nevermind

Ok Thanks Daman, I'm just over-thinking the numbers in the problem.
