    Default What's up?!

Tell me, is it standard practice to locate utilities, power for this instance, and locate two or more different wires when there is only one meter can? It is a residence with one home on the property.

A pro locator will unbond the phone and tv to isolate all utilities then locate them out to a logical termination using peak and verifiying w/ null covering the entire scope of request...
Sounds to me like someone marked more than one power service for 1 meter can? I bet they just power swept the area, got 2 signals and painted hoping for the best....

You speak of "STANDARD PRACTICE" , I have my own standards which can vary depending on type of work being performed and who is excavating. Everybodys are different. You can start an entire thread on "STANDARD PRACTICE" and start a shit storm....

Standard or not it seems to me that if you are needing to find a specific line, you should have to find that specific line. I have realized not everything is straight forward but I am a plumber with a few locating tools not a professional locator that should have all of the tools at his disposal to properly do the job.

I have seen a front yard riddled with multiple markings over a 25' wide band and there was only one cable tv line. The best thing about the job is they were not all going in the same direction. I wish I had a camera at the time.

If you don't have the tools to do the job, hire someone who does.

Its a free service for the utilities to be located by dialing 811, is this new to you? I have most of the equipment I need to do my jobs. Did you locate these jobs?

Easy fellas, don't get sucked into this debate. It's starting to border on trolling. Gettinit, if you have a real question to ask, or a point to make, get on with it.

Cable drops are easy to locate, grab the cable at the house and start pulling, it will come right of the ground just walk and pull all the way to the ped.

Um, no, not really. This ain't my first rodeo, Skippy. And good for you that YOU have 'all the equipment needed to do your job". Apparently you didn't read where the OP stated he DIDN'T.

811 will not locate private lines.

    Is this new to you?

yep, works everytime, thats one of the "unsaid shortcuts" of the biz, just make sure put some paint on the line after you shake off the dirt.

Sorry fellas, I thought 480sparky was making a joke and I followed with one.

OP.....original post? That was me. The original post, was a question to see if it was common to mark every signal you pick up or are the pros held to higher "standards". I didn't mean to spark a trolling (don't know what that is), a fight or even a debate. I know my end; which is cut it within 30" and I am paying for it. I don't mind hearing any opinions, just let me know they are opinions. I was after rules/guidelines.

I will choose my words more carefully next time.
