What is YOUR default setting?

The longer I work in this business, and the more I see from the major players these days, it really seems that most folks are just reacting. Reacting to customer demands, reacting to pressure from above etc. This seems to be the source of most of the corporate nonsense and tail chasing that many of us deal with daily.

When I get handed something that changes the way I operate I ask myself this question first: What can I do to make this decision the best one for everyone that it may affect? And the main criteria for me is public safety, first and foremost.

My question then is this: What do you do when confronted with the same situation? Thanks for playing!

Most of the bosses I ever had are resentful of any suggestion made by a locator and if I make a good recommendation I am regarded as a trouble maker putting my job security at risk. So I do what I am told.

For too many managers suggestions to change one of their orders is regarded as strictly criticism and a personal attack on them.

If there is a manager who is open minded I make the suggestion through them. Then if they feel the upper bosses are receptive they can make the suggestion and get credit. Most of the times these suggestions go nowhere as these lower management workers face the same problem we do.

I am with you Bad. My support will always go anything that improves safety, even if it means it will be a pain for me. The right path is often not an easy one.
