Default What new locator to get?

Looking to buy another locator. Currently using RD 7000. I'm thinking of getting the RD 8100 but would love to hear your thoughts on what the best equipment is out there. I've researched rigid, ditchwitch, vivax but have never used anything other than RD.

I personally love all my subsite/ditchwitch locators . I have a 75 , 95 , and the new bright green one . But I have used all the machines you named . They are all good for the purpose of locating most utilities.

I believe I've mentioned this in the past but back when I started, we hada use a club and prybar.

You simply put your ear to the ground and thump the dirt with your club. You can tell by the echo where your buried cables are.
The prybar is for in the winter when your head gets frozen to the dirt.

I think Steve may have his old set on E-bay.

I worked for an electric utility company in the early '70s. Had an old surplus WWII mine detector in the supply room they had tried for locating cables. Did not work well enough.
