"It's call BEFORE you dig, not AFTER you've hit something."
Yes, my avatar does describe my attitude towards many others...
We are going from 5 locates to 8 and some area 10 locates per ticket and both company our short on locators. We need a miracle!!!
I would go just about anywhere for a couple of months to beat this heat - except Philadelphia! Supposed to be 104 to 107 next week.

Hey P'nF - Wingfoot's current responsibilities:
1.) AT&T
2.) KCP&L electricity
3.) Time Warner TV
4.) Comcast TV
5.) Kansas City 42" Water Transmission Line
6.) Kansas City Street Lights
7.) Kansas City Sewer (sanitary & storm)
8.) Local School System Fiber Network
Potential added responsibilities currently done by CUS:
9.) Local Water
10.) Local Sanitary Sewer - Separate billing
11.) Local Storm Sewer - Separate billing
AT&T currently absorbs approximately 40% of my ticket time to complete a locate. It took me 6 months of locating water to get a feeling of real confidence marking KC Water.
Not every ticket requires blue & green paint. Knowing USIC, a blue and green OK with a flag stuck in it will be required on each locate to pass an internal audit. My guess is the sewer & water contract, at USIC renewal time, will have stipulations that include fines to USIC if an external audit reveals the ticket is not painted and flagged to the City's expectations..............

Wing, No Time Waner Telcom, Norlight or Mcloed?
Hey ihoby - I don't have these utilities in my small area.
Also, I did a real shitty job proof reading my original response before posting. I am responsible for all the gas lines making my area in reality a 9-way - soon to be a 12-way area............
----------------------------------------------------------
I have gone from 1 way locates to 6 way locates over the years and 1 thing stays pretty consistent - I normally average 7 to 9 Locates per hour (as opposed to tickets). My average density ( locates per ticket) is about 4 and I currently average 2 tickets per hour which equals 8 locates per hour or 64 locates in 8 hours. I have averaged as high as 10 locates per hour but that was back when new houses were going up 20 at a time. This varies considerably day-to-day but that's to be expected.

Hey P'nF - To use a phrase from a Paul Simon song, Kodachrome, "Everything looks worse in black and white."
And so the saying aptly applies to a 9-way area. Even though a 9-way area, or possibly a 12-way area, may appear to be overwhelming, it's not as tough as one may think.
It is rare to throw out a bunch of 'OKs' at any locate site in a 9-way area. Every ticket requires a visit when marking telephone, CATV, electricity and gas. Except for sewer & water (typically protected by depth), all other utilities are in small pockets. At the end of a typical 10 hour day for me, 16 to 17 tickets get done. Many of my peers do much better than that.

Hi all. As some of you know, I am new here and have been working for CUS since June 6. I live in Iowa. What does this stuff mean for me? I am kinda scared and nervous. Right now, my supervisor almost never calls, I don't have gps (I think), and all in all things are really nice.
