I'm sorry to hear about this....But it's all about the rich getting richer and poor getting poorer. Like I say money is what makes the world go around.

mr810 You must think USIC is a small boat. Think again. There is plenty of work out there. Let's wait and see if three companies can do a better job. If your with one of them good luck with WE.

nope, not w/ any of the 3 companies, and your right USUC is not a small boat, but that is their problem, too big too fast, and now they think the utility companies will pay more and they are finding out ..... WRONG ! these companies used to hire the highest quality they could get but now they just talk that out one side of their mouth while they are looking for the cheapest way of getting the job done.
How long would it have taken for USUC to tell their people about losing the contract ???? they would not have been quick about it, just like in Indiana, with NIPSCO, USUC knew about 2 weeks B4 it was broke over "THE VINE" then they had to tell us, if OVUS hadnt put it on here who knows when we wouldve found out about it, most of you think it's shitty how WE energy broke the news but, hey... atleast you know where you stand, gives you time to think, weigh the pros and cons of staying or going, choice is yours, what other contracts do you have to fall back on w/ W.E. being gone ? can you survive, now you have time to find these answers... oh yeah, do some checking, research, at the other contracts USUC are losing or have lost, make yourself informed, have some knowledge before you go running off at the mouth

Just out of curiousity, do any of you guys know how many contracts USIC has lost since they bought SM&P and CLS? I know of two electric contracts and a fiber contract in Pennsylvania alone, then there's the Nipsco contract and now WE energy. So thats 5 altogether that I'm aware of, anybody know if I missed any?

Damn I wish our company would get on the ball and establish a full time marketing division that would pound the pavement in search of new contracts.

There are more dislocated locators out there. I am one of them as the utility that I worked for gave 30 of us two weeks notice that we would be permanently laid off. Meaning that if a job opened up somewhere down the road, we would have to apply for it and go through the whole excruciating interview process AGAIN! I have tried contacting CU but have had my calls go unreturned. Believe me, there are 30 of us who would jump at the chance to work for CU. Some of you, who actually believe that nobody owes you a living, and those of you who need to grow up, will apply at CU yourselves. My apologies for being harsh but some of you are going to have to deal with reality.

"penny wise..pound foolish".....while most of us at smp/usic anticipated losing some of the we/energy "zones"...none of us thought that they would be as ungrateful to us as they seem to be...giving the past track record of the other vendors they had recently, was it a smart business move to elimanate a proven quality vendor from the contract?...I believe a smart business move would have been to "keep" a familar proven quality vendor on just incase (as it has happen in the recent past) there would be a situation with the new vendors..ie: pum and the other locating co. that didnt even show up...we at smp/usic have proven over the years that we are commited to damage prevention . we have steadily improved our "quality ratio" over the years for we/energies...have formed a relationship with the we/energies crews and their other vendors ,also are very familiar with the "plant"..the guys in the trenches knew most of us by name...also knew that they could call us and count on us to help them when something wasnt right...I dont mean to take away anything from the 3 vendors that were awarded the contract...I am sure they are fine locating companies...but I can promise that they have never dealt with a "primadona" like we/energies mngmt...also now instead of having to deal with 1 company on claims (yes Saul,Don, and Tice There will be plenty of claims)..now they will have to deal with 3...sounds more costly and time consuming to me...while smp/usic will undoubtedly lose some good people...I am confident that we at smp/usic will continue to be a leader in the "Damage Prevention" industry...so now the question for you Saul..(inretrospect)...are you really comfortable sleeping at night knowing that your decision to eliminate totally the company that bent over backwards to please you..and that you could count on to sacrifice to make sure your plant was protected when pum 'screwed" you over ?And as I said before the vendor from down south that didnt show...going into the unknown?....remember...cheaper isnt always better...as an example, its like going to the dollar store and expecting quality...so again.....were you.."penny wise and pound foolish"?.....they say business is about "dollars and cents"....but you should have used "sense" in your arrogant and truly thoughtless decision...good luck to you....p.s. for those who might be offended..sorry for the puncuation and spelling..after all I am just a "damage prevention specialist"

I'm not a castoff, I have worked very hard to learn this job, and, I'm sure I called you with a question more than once. This WE contract is going to cost me my job,USIC is bull#$#%. From Randy P. to Mike N. they are more intrested in there fantacy football accounts, than company goals. The IT guy can't even get the right paint in the building for me to perform my job.Flags come in next week.Is a common replay, batteries we're out,not in the budget, this month.Work your ass off in the rain but, don't get our gear wet, perform at the highest level, without a raise, for years. Then listen to Darins bull#$%$. Can you do this job? I ran a armorer truck company,so I'M QUALIFIED, to run you guys.No HP damage do one ticket a day and, out end everything.twice Is an wonderful goal for a moron.
This contract was lost because of EGO,you old timers should be ashamed, you racked up your OT,and, really accomplished not much more than the next guy.Numbers were the key,

Pretty big words for a guy behind a keyboard. I can assure you that Randy, and Mike and especially Darin had hoped for a better outcome. Saul, and the rest of the WE crew are playing the same game that we are, they just decided to pull the trump card. If you don't like the leadership of USIC, no one is asking you to stay.

^^^^^^WOW USIC0419! You better get your head out of the managemenit a-hole! It really will not get you anywhere with a company where upper management is most important. Contracts have been lost all over the country and where I am I know more is to come. This tells us something. After the experiences of this last year (which has nothing to do with economy issues), l will no longer support this mess. Oh, and I am looking to get out as are about a dozen other quality people in our area. It saddens me to see how far we have fallen.

    Get out to where!?!?!

The economy does still suck, unless you want to work for peanuts...

I was going to do the otr truck driving thing...Live in the truck on the road... Thats a lost cause for now, and maybe indefinitely( may be to rough on an old dog)... At some point money will HAVE to be allotted for highway infrastructure on a massive scale... Maybe a boom or concrete truck will do for an older dog... Nobody bothers you #1 factor like locating used to be... HA!!! and you still knock down roughly the same pay without killing yourself... I was even debating the municipal shuttle bus driving and the benis...Then there is propane or oil delivery , just no porta-johnny's-eeewwww!!!

I figure eventually I ll probably pursue a CDL driving job to finish out my working years...

I doubt I ll continue ground-pounding mid 50's and beyond... Really you know it will be time to move on... Do something with a little more respect... No more taking pictures of safety cones out on every ticket like school dhildren... Do you see the utility outfits we locate for doing such a ridiculous activity... Guess there more responsible then us children...

If I was younger, Id go back in the service ... The government is the best place to be nowadays if your a "spoke in the wheel"...

Living near government agencys is the second best place to get work in any case...Thats where the 30% that you and I work for gets blown on the residual deadweights dotting I's and crossing T's...

I think roughing it until you qualify for UE is the best alternative...

Take a vacation with pay if you can get away with it... Everybody deserves to get their paws in the cookie jar... You paid for it...
