Are you Guys talking about going to UtiliQuest or leaving the company?

I agree that the management policies being enacted are impeding UtiliQuest's ability to retain experienced technicians thereby dissolving the institutionalized technical and tacit knowledge of locating that only an experienced technician provides, which results in lower average production and higher damage ratios.

But I still enjoy my job.

S&N Locating lost the locating contract with Verizon for the state of Virginia. Weren't outbid, contract terminated early by Verizon. S&N Communications lost the install contract for Verizon in the state of Virginia. Again contract terminated early by Verizon.

Utiliquest will be doing the locating and Lambert's Cable will do the install. Turn over of the first locating area start Sunday October 25th and fourth and final area turned over about four weeks later. I am in the first area to be turned over.

They are not talking about it but us field guys figure they are going to permanently lay off half us locators. The thing is we are at about only half complement and as a result are working mandatory OT every day and weekends. If they lose half their work load and lay off half their locators they are still understaffed. Usually be Thanks Giving the work load drops dramatically and comes back full force in April. That being likely I have encouraged my coworkers to leave on good terms because I estimate that come April 1st they will need to rehire all those people.

Had not planned on it. From what it's locators tell me I would be going to a worse situation. Going to think about this for awhile.

I been at S&N Locating since second wave of start up hire, something like the third month they were open so about 5 1/5 years.

    Micro Management.

They may be worse in cheating their locators or just have a longer history of it. When on Pay for Performance one guy noted his tickets per hour weren't right. Found they had added his oncall hours in with his regular hours. Later they added vacation time into the PFP hours, told him he should have come in and done tickets while on vacation. The list goes on........

Wow - PFP. I feel like I'm reading a post from 10 years ago. Did they have PFP when you worked there? I'm sure things are a bit different these days.

ProfessionalLocator, I was thinking that this might be actually good for you. Does your employer have other contracts you can stay on while losing the major telephone locating?

If so, then your supervisor duties probably just got easier. Your employer probably will not lower your wage, and at the same time your responsibilities will be easier. Not having to worry about locating the telephone.

The only true drawback from your perspective is that it puts your employer in a worse position to keep the current contracts they currently still have.

But in the meantime, you will have an easier job.

    Come to UQ!
    Are you still in Maryland?

They are filling 12 new supervisor positions in VA RIGHT NOW!
As we just picked up a big contract in VA.
Apply, as they don't like making techs that work here Sups.. Go figure.
