USIC in the winter?

What do Locator Techs for USIC do in the winter months in the "cold" states? Do they still work or is there a lay off time during the winter?

First off welcome to the vine and post often.

In my experience it depends on your district. We do a voluntary layoff and then most everyone takes vacation days when its real light. Everyone else then works more area to pick up the slack. But it just depends how well your crew works together.

We have alot of guys that work tons of overtime in the warm months and then volunteer for layoff from Dec. - Mar. If you can get your hands on a cash job for the winter months plowing you will have it made over the winter. I have never taken a day of layoff but I do have some short weeks and burn alot of vacation in the winter.
