    Question Strangest Thing You've seen?

I've seen some pretty wild things while working all over my state and in some backyards... numerous car accidents, cops chasing cars, old folks crashing into barricades, a few inappropriate offers by some female homeowners and what not. Had to stop working one day because the SWAT team told us we were in the line of fire when they had the bad guys cornered in this house. Good times...

Do you have any cherished memories?

Just a couple weeks ago I saw one of the funniest things since I've worked here. There were two sandhill cranes and one of them was pissed off at a window. He saw his reflection in the window and kept pecking at his own reflection. I got it on my camera phone but the quality sucked. Here's the link. Fighting Sandhill crane

Scariest thing is angry homeowner/businessowners threating to kill me. Some people just need to relax. I can't believe how mad people can get just because we're putting a few flags in their yard.

I was asked to stop working and leave the imediate area by the Secret service one time.(I was on an overpass, which they were securing for the presidential vist.)

The Strangest was watching a kookie teen get bean bagged by the police.

I was in the Ghetto of SE Portland doing a video inspection, and I just pulled up to meet my contact when he ushered me passed him and his friend. I turned around just to see a late Teens kid with a 12" kitchen knife. The kid never said a word, he just smiled and stared at us. When the City inspector showed up, the kid traped him in his van, the inspector called the police. The police showed up, entered the kids house and we watched though the glas windows shoot the kid with the bean bag gun. The kid dropped like a sack of potatos

ohhh, there was the time I did a locate near a facility that rendered horses. Came accross a big dumpster with random horse parts.

When I was a meter reader, I read some meters in a Mobile home court, and came a cross a trailer that was supposed to be empty (wasn't) which had a toilet sitting out in the yard (thought it was for decoration). As I walked up past the toilet, found out someone dropped a duce in it.... silly tweakers.

I can officially say through all my time walking though random neighbor hoods and such, I have never came accross any people that were not wearing any clothes..... other then strip clubs of course.

Goldenboy - OMG?! A property owner threatened to kill you?! That's seriously fkced up man! Was this guy the one who called in the ticket? Holy shit this is messed up big time! I woulda sued him straight out. Oh and dude, that was a really funny video you took of that crane. I'm glad that you were tech savvy enough to use your cell phone to take a video, because this was very amusing!

Mke - Whoa dude, I never knew a ghetto of that caliber existed in Portland. Man, these heavily populated places make utility location so much harder, not just because there is way more shit in the ground but because the people that crawl the local area tend to be retards. You know, 'tarded.

One of the guys I know was onced attacked by a pig while he was still in his truck. The pig kept head butting his door over and over and he couldn't get out! It was a huge hog, must have been at least 150 pounds, or so he said. Probably big enough to do some damage to an unarmed man.

My strange and crazy top three would include walking into the backyards of 4 different homes within a two week time frame and seeing the woman of the house sunbathing either topless or totally naked. Got to love those rural locates that the husbands call in and don't tell the wives!

Another rural locate for a 3 mile county ditch cleaning project had me 1/2 mile from my truck walking thru brush and sticker bushes taller then me when I hear growling noises coming from the road. Coming out of the ditch I found myself infront of 4 wild dogs. They were not very happy to see me and I them. I made it back to my truck with my locator intact, a broken paint stick, out of paint and a rip in my jeans. The 4 dogs were all orange, some with sore heads from my paint stick or from a thrown empty paint can and all probably had a problem seeing for a few days.

The 3rd craziest was when I was doing a stand-by on a little 4 strand fiber. The contractor got the fiber exposed and I was just about to leave when he reached down and yanked on the fiber and it snapped in half. He almost started crying.

Too many to count, bue one of my favorites is the 2 bomb scares I caused. One at a police station and the other at a printing factory(1200 employees)that was starting their evacuation proceedures. Neither of them were very happy with me. I guess another favorite was a perfectly marked gas main 3" was hit by a track hoe. It blew gas for 10-15 minutes then ignited from I'm guessing a static shock (Plastic main bedded in sand). That blaze proceeded to burn for 9 hours scorching a brand new D-8 dozer and the cat 345 back hoe. Mostly because the utility co. couldnt find their valves to turn the gas off. Kind of a couple of my trophies I guess You could say. Oh yeah no injuries on any of the shenanagans..

About a month ago, I drove up on an Amish buggey that had gotten blasted by a mini van. It had obviously happened a couple hours earlier as the ambulances were all gone and there was no horse around. As bad as the buggey was busted up there had to of been fatalities. I'm glad I didn't happen upon the accident site sooner.

It happens quite often and rarely ends well for those in the buggies. They only do 6 Mph and when they get struck at 40 mph it's no contest who wins.

Been there, done that many times myself.

Once, my trainee Nextelled me to urgently meet him at his locate sight. The locked privacy fence`had my trainee ready to knock on the front door. Before the knock, he immediately witnessed the teenage daughter and her boyfriend were "plugged in" on the living room couch. I missed everything, but my trainee gave me a "blow" by "blow" of all the action.........
