    Default Stimulus Payments

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.

This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format:

    Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment?

    A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

    Q. Where will the government get this money?

    A. >From taxpayers.

    Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?

    A. Only a smidgen of it.

    Q. What is the purpose of this payment?

    A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

    Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?

    A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

    * If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka ..

    * If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

    * If you purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or China ..

    * If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala ...

    * If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea ..

    * If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan ..

    * If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

    1) Spending it at yard sales, or
    2) Going to ball games, or
    3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
    4) Beer, or
    5) Tattoos.

(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S.)

    Conclusion:

Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day !

No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could be of help.

This is kind of awful. You will not be receiving the 400 dollar bump you got last year, and the fact that a stimulus payment that is in some way constructed by the government is absurd. Anything remotely even mediocre for the public is deadlocked by bickering by people that don't give a damn about you.

An individual consideration is simply not spending any surplus money, to put away all you can in this uncertain economy.

Some versions of this I employ with my OT money is prepaying some accounts. Prepaying utility bills insure critical services like electric, phone, gas and niceties such as internet service and CATV are insured in event of some financial setback. It does no good to prepay your mortgage as your agreement requires a monthly payment, prepay six months and then miss three months and you will get foreclosed. Rent you can prepay though some states limit the amount of rent a landlord can collect in advance. If you get a sudden lump sum for somewhere consider paying off or paying down credit card balances so that a larger line of credit is available. Paying off your car is always a good thing to do and paying off the entire years insurance rather than monthly payments is also a good way to insure (pun intended) that you will be able to drive during a financial setback.

Locators are subject to periods of no income. Aside from a seasonal layoff, and many firms simply do not call their laid off locators back, there is weather. A heavy snow can knock you out of work for a week or two, even rain can knock you out of work for a week. I have known of firms that will do a rain layoff on a day to day decision, if it rains they just send their people home or tell them not to come in.
I worked in one office where I was in the north area and if it rained elsewhere, say the south side, they just sent everybody home.

In addition there are the problems of firms losing their contracts and do NOT count on the firm that won the contract to hire you, they seldom hire on all the laid off locators from the firm that lost the contract.

Consider also the prospect of a firm just collapsing and going out of business, it has happened. One firm I worked at kept a plan ready to shut down their operation in any state if they got a damage that was really large, they were under insured. Even if you work for a nationwide company sometimes they set up their state operation as an independent subsidiary, something like a franchise. So they can shut it down and limit liability to the parent company. For example you may work for Magnificent Locating but notice that your offices are legally named Magnificent Locating of Malibu, this indicates a company that is legally separate from Magnificent Locating. (I am going to feel silly if there really is a firm named Magnificent Locating)

Seems to me it would cost less overall if the government just didn't tax us for that money. That way we could have more money to spend monthly thus stimulating the economy, monthly. What a concept. I believe that is something I learned in Econ 101. Lower taxes means more money is put into the economy, higher taxes means less money is put into the economy. It's a simple concept that liberals just can't grasp. If they did grasp it then that would blow a hole in their social justice philosophy. They can't have that happen.
