Hello, Viners! I love this forum you guys have going here and I thank you for having me as a member. I've been an underground utility locator for a couple years now and I'm here today because I'm seeking information about a company called Linderlake Corporation. I discovered them from a job posting they had last year on locatorjobs.com, which I suspect is also owned by the proprietor of thecablevine.com as well.
I've already been to thier website which is linderlake.com. Impressed as I was, I still had some questions regarding the work they do. I have a buddy who says at one point he had a friend who knows someone else that worked there for a time or still does.
He said that Linderlake Corporation, among several other things, has contracts with many major fiber optic companies for thier locating needs. We think they mark for the Call Center markouts. We also think they have a presence all over the country or at least the continental united states, and that they have about 150 employees or so. On thier website they mention they have OSP locators, this refers to an underground utility locator I presume? Abbreviations are tricky, they require previous knowledge of what the letters stand for to make any sense. Could someone kindly remind me what OSP actually stands for?
Furthermore, we believe that the company requires locators they hire to supply EVERYTHING themselves, such as a vehicle, gas and maitenance for that vehicle, locating equipment including reciever, transmitter, direct connect clips, ringclamp, paint, flags, batteries, hardhat, everything. I wanted to know if there was any truth to this. I wonder if the OSP abbreviation has anything to do with this relationship between the company and the employee.
We also think that you don't get the crazy overtime that you can get with a regular utility locating outfit. We think that you only get 25 hours a week on average throughout the year because the fiber companies screen all the call center tickets and only give you the ones that might be in conflict with thier fibers. Because of this we think that one locator can cover a gigantic area, sometimes even having one guy cover the entire state they are in. I'm also guessing, that if this is the case, then that one single locator would also be on call for emergencies every single day of the year forever into eternity.
Any-hoo, the main reason I'm posting here today is because I'm wondering if there is any truth to the information I already have. Also, is it super rare to be able to work for Linderlake? Or do they have openings regularly throughout the year? If anyone has worked for them before, was it an awesome experience? Did they treat you well? Are you still there or what was your reason for leaving?
I welcome any advice I can get on the subject, and I thank ya'll for reading my post. Happy locating, and may plastic gas services with no tracer wire tone perfectly for you anyway! G'nite.
