Question PAY $, PRODUCTION, PROMOTION and other rants...

    Ok...
It seems there is a disparity in this industry about how techs are paid,
it seems quite arbitrary and based more on who likes you not your numbers...

For example, I started 2 years ago, First year, damage free, $500 bonus check plus a $.50 RAISE,
My average was 1.3 tix/ hr about the office's average for all techs...
Second year, I averaged, 1.9/ hr, .6 above the office average. 2 small damages, $.50 RAISE.

Ok now my friend, who was in the same class I was, First year, .8/hr., 0.5 below the crew average.
Damage free for the entire year, NO RAISE.
Second year, 1.3 tix per hour, that's about the office's average. Damage free the ENTIRE year. NO RAISE.

My other tech friend He's been here about 10 mos., 2 small damages, about 1.1/ hr. and after 10 months, he gets a
    $.75 RAISE....

Another friend, doing about 2.2/hr, 0.9 above the crew average; one damage, phone main. after one year gets a $1.00 RAISE,

There seems to be no standard for pay increases...

I'M QUESTIONING WHAT THIS COMPANY'S PRIORITIES ARE... AM I MISSING SOMETHING?... This is UQ btw.

Also, I'm interviewing for the Damage Investigator, job tomorrow, whats the best way to approach it?
    Wish me luck!

I've noticed the same as you. It doesn't matter how good you are it just mattesr whether you are liked or not. I've seen drunks promoted to manager positions in this business. Yes, showing up to work drunk as well as showing up at other times smelling like they fell in a vat of beer. I've seen people get fired for 4 damages and then a couple of months later, the guy with 6 damages gets promoted to supervisor. And, yes, the guy who got fired had seniority, supervisor experience, and was an all around better locator.

There is no reasoning behind some of these decisions. I guess some managers were the odd kid on the block at one time and are now trying to get friends by promoting the 'popular' people. Who knows.

Good luck on your interview. No advice for you on that. Just do your best.

in the interview when they ask you why you should be the new damage investigation manager; tell them that you were great at investigating all your own damages.

So your company has a fulltime damage investigator position? First time I have heard of a contract locating company having a position like that. Must be a high amount of damages in the area )

good luck with your new job. my advice to you is to accept (today) that your new job is a temporary position ! That is a FACT !
