No e-mails

Has anyone else been introduced to our management's new ploy? When asked a question by e-mail, such as "Do you want me to do my 40 survey tickets this week-end or work on my 5 mile project with all of the high-profile facilities?" that our mgmt now only answers by telephone. It seems they have been told to limit their decisions to verbal only so they(mgmt) are protected when something gets hit. Of course. we have all started using the 'BCC' (blind carbon copy) option on our e-mail and sending these e-mails to our own personal accounts or to a fellow employee. If anyone else has noticed this new trend , let us know.

It's been like that for years here. Plus we're not allowed to do projects on the weekends.

I ve started using email ( with generic response )for emergency and short notice confirmation.. Just get the dispatch email and bim-bam-boom...

That way I dont have to answer my phone anymore to respond to any dispatch gibberish effecting my PRODUCTIVITY...

Maybe just a matter of time when we wont need them either???

One has to get back on line to recieve the ticket anyway so may as well send email confirmation... DOCUMENTATION you know...

If its mis-routed, we notify the supervisor (who have so much to do) to transfer it to the proper location...


The documentation factor is rarely recognized to benefit the locator, just like safety, its only company (C)(T)heir(A) so never forget where as an employee you stand in most corporate eyes...

Without strong UNIONS these days the trend will only deteriorate...

Oh yea,,,,,they do that crap here too. So when they call you send a email to them starting in responce to your telephone converstation early today regarding my email......They realllllllly like that.......8)

not only noticed it, but I know that when I send an e-mail, they will be calling shortly and I turn off my radio.
before you hit that send button, make sure you open the options button and check the boxes to show that they received the e-mail and the other one to show they read it, and also BCC FW those to your personal emails

How 'bout burning those survey tickets on the weekend while marking the 5-mile job? Who's gonna know? Just don't get run over, twist an ankle/knee or crash your truck while on the project...........

You can purchase a digital tape recorder fairly cheap. In most states conversations involving yourself are legal to tape without knowledge of the other party. I used to tape some scumbag contractors without their knowledge when discussing a project and the "locate area".

Im not seeing this ploy with my sup. If I ask him something via email he responds with a legit answer. Maybe he's just not aware or is just a straight shooter and dont hide behind the B.S. you guys describe.

Now the D.M. is another story

Ex. After recieving a nasty productivity email in my group in which all but 2 locators meant production goals for a month, and I know the two guys that meant the goals, and they tend to promote tickets in their areas( I wont say how), but what sort of response would I get for this challenge through email???

A straight answer???

Maybe a free ride to standing in the uemployment line???

I overheard a safety conference call recently of another crew, and the supervisor was spitting out the numbers per locator (ticket #s, and facility count per ticket) BUT EXCLUDED THE HOURS WORKED TO GET THOSE NUMBERS... I ve been confronted on this before... What the hell do the numbers matter when you exclude the hours to get the numbers!?!?!

Its ridiculous!!! An equation w/o all the variables... I dont know which is worse- the concept of the crew not figuring out the missing variable matters, or managements deception that locators are to stupid to have the intelligence to realize this???

Think I d have a job if I emailed that concern too???

Point being as I initially said, start asking the right questions and see if the issues get CLEARLY addressed???

With the economy and employment in the Post Bush Demise Era so shaky, cant much push the envelope... Yeah I had to throw that jab in there!!!

lol all I can say is get out while you can. been fired since april. Best time of my life. bought a nice sports car. just ordered a new 700$ exhaust. all paid for by unemployment. You guys are all over reacting. You think you cannot get by? you guys are selling yourselves short. there are plenty of jobs out there you just have to go grab them. and yes they do the calling thing on purpose. when you have project tickets and you email them and tell them you have to go mark them they will call you to tell you to go work on singles. they dont want a paper trial to cover their asses. thats what that is. take my words for what they are.
