From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Audacity of Hope:'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

Despite his denials, rumors and e-mails circulating on the Internet continue to allege that Obama (D-Ill.) is a Muslim, a "Muslim plant" in a conspiracy against America, and that, if elected president, he would take the oath of office using a Koran, rather than a Bible, as did Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the only Muslim in Congress, when he was sworn in earlier this year. - Washington Post; 11-29-07

By the way, The Koran that Ellison used, was originally owned by Thomas Jefferson. Obama went to both Muslim and Catholic schools. Also, Just because he ceased to advocate that his mother was white, does not mean there was an issue. I have a nephew that has one white parent and one that is black. He had to switch school because of the bullshit he went through. He will not admit to anyone anymore his mother is white also. I can not blame him. He's been dealing with racism his whole life and he's only 12.

I was not raised in a religious household. For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness. However, in her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology. On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well.
This spirit of hers guided me on the path I would ultimately take. It was in search of confirmation of her values that I studied political philosophy.

Any Questions? Stop being closed minded. Actually do some research, and not just take partial quotes. Mine are actual quotes not just hearsay. I still do not know who I am voting for, but I am severly ashamed at the uninfered racism/ageism on all sides. I will keep looking objectively at both sides. I may still vote 3rd party. But stop the BS references.

First, I am impressed with your vocabulary:

ageism = a tendency to regard older persons as debilitated, unworthy of attention, or unsuitable for employment. It nails what's going on right now!

Second - Finally, I have a convert! Go Chuck Baldwin - Constitution Party!

Don't be - Beyond was quoting Barry from his book, The Audacity of Hope. My question is, how did Barry turn out to be so "Christian"?

Trent: You can say anything you want, as can I. I actually gave you the source WITH the page number (It was actually in the book). You only gave an infered source. I had a college professor that would have called it slander (No actual proof of a quotation{See my first quote above}). I tend to think that Obama is a somewhat egocentric prick. I am trying to make a point from a "TRUE undecided's point of view." The worst problem I see is the misinformation on both sides. More from the republicans (They are a little behind in the poles) Just give me the Friggin' truth!

I was quoting Obama directly from his book. He was the one to have that varied education. Me on the other hand, I went to a Lutheran school for 4 years, public for 8. I married a jewish woman as my first wife. Divorced after 3 years. Then married a catholic woman (12 years in catholic school.). My childhood best friend was Chaldean (he stood in my first wedding). So I've had a slightly diverse background.

As you can see by Wing's post, I am rather unimpressed with either "major" candidate. Both are running platforms that are frighteningly socialistic.

I am reviewing the other 4 parties on the ballot here. My vote will more than likely lie there. Some will say I am throwing my vote away, but I feel that I am making a statement of my beliefs. I will vote for the candidate that is closest with what I want. I am tired of both sides lying their @$$e$ off. Biden and McCain are part of the Good ol' Boy (they are looking for their own interests) network. Palin is a secessionist, as well as too rhetorical in her stump speeches. Obama spends too much money.

    From Merriam-Webster:

    Main Entry: 1Chris·tian

Just in case anyone wanted to know what a Christian was. So if your Catholic, Baptist, Evangelical, Lutheran, Protestant, and Mormon (I know I'm missing some too.)..... See the above.
