    Default Movie Thread

Hollywood lost me as a regular attender many years ago. I'm no prude, but I got fed up with all the f-bombs, the political correctness bullshit, the mindless plots with the white American males always being portrayed as dummies and the constant soft porn.

Once I rented 'Dancing With Wolves' staring Kevin Kostner. A buddy of mine said it was safe for my kids to watch. I wasn't prepared for the tepee scene with Kevin on the bottom and girl on top. I 'fast forwarded' the scene, but that didn't help matters. That must have been a 10 minute long segment of the movie, because it took forever on fast forward. My kids were laughing at the high speed soft porn and me.

I still pick and choose a few movies to watch at the theaters. I recently watched Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. The previews give me the impression it would be a very violent Dirty Harry movie. It's got a couple moments, but it's mostly just intense scenes, with a bit of dry humor. I have a feeling the Oscars snubbed the movie for it's political incorrectness. I enjoyed watching the old white guy making fun of different ethnic groups. The last 25% of the movie is very touching. The moral of the story is that people are people no matter what their race/creed.

Well Wing I agree with Hollywood loosing it. All you have to do is look at the crap it churns out.

When did the montra become 'Let's turn a t.v. show into a movie!' (M.A.S.H. doesn't count it was a movie first, and the first to use the F word by the way). 'Let's remake movies from the 80's and 70's!' (A small handfull have been good while the rest let's just say have sucked)

Oh and who for the love of god picks these crap indy movies for Oscar Nominations?? Is it the two people who have sen them??

I use to like going to the movies. Now it has to be something that really catches my eye and peaks my interest. The last movie I went to see was Iron Man. It was hands down the best adaptation of a comic book hero put in a movie (Superman has been BEAT to death, Batman was ok but What the F was the deal with Christian Bale's 'Batman' voice in the last one? Not to mention the story line jumped around so much it was almost painfull to watch). The Hulk (didn't see it, either of them), The Punisher (Saw the 1st one w/ Dolf Lundgren, SUCKED, 2nd one w/ Tom Jane, sort of ok, Haven't seen the 3rd one).

Not to mention it's too expensive to go to the movie theater regularly. You need to set up a finance plan with the theater just to take a family of four out for a night at the movies. $8.00+ a ticket to see some of this crap? I don't think so.

And where's the originality nowadays? Friday the 13th has just been remade. The Last Dragon is being remade. There is a sequel in the works for The Goonies. Did anyone ask for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake? or an Indiana Jones 4? Do we really need to know the background of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine? or see a prequel of Will Smith's I Am Legend? George Lucas has absolutely killed the Star Wars franchise. Hollywood killed the Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween franchises, and is in the process of killing the Saw franchise, too. Was the world clammering for another X-Files movie? Harry Potter is set to come out with another movie. Hurray! Dragnet, The Honeymooners, Starsky & Hutch.....why? And who asked for Charlie and The Chocolate Factory?!! The Dark Knight was a good movie but heck, even it was a remake.

The movies that raise the bar don't come out often enough. T2: Judgement Day and it's special effects, Scream and it's throwback to slasher flicks, Toy Story and computer animation, Titanic with it's big budget and attention to graphic detail, The Matrix and CGI graphics, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and it's epic EVERYTHING - all else in between is filler material, and while there's always something to cater to everyone's liking (there are a few decent movies in the mix though) that's really all it is: filler material. Well, that and the Indie flicks that win all the awards.

I haven't been to the movie theater in a long time. I normally just rent movies on the CATV. Although I did see the previews for Taken and really want to see that one on the big screen. I guess it's time to hunt down a sitter.

    Me too Wings.

But I have some free movie channels from DTV this month (they messed something up), and watched a really good movie. It was called Reign Over Me, and I hope to see it again. Good movie.

    The Wolf of Wall Street

    Matthew McConaughey at Lunchtime

    -----------------------------------------------

    -----------------------------------------------

Greetings 'Viners! Last week my wife and I attended the movie 'The Wolf of Wall Street.' I watched the above trailer beforehand and nothing prepared me for the three hour onslaught of soft porn the two of us endured.

WoW! The show's set-up scene was Matthew McConaughey snortin' coke at lunchtime while telling Leonardo to be a successful Wall Street trader, one has to jack-off once in the morning in the company head, once again after lunch, have wild, adulterous sex after work before going home to love-up on momma (I never could have done all that day after day; not even when I was 21 years old!). There were more scenes of BJs while Leonardo drove his car to work, Saturday morning BJs while pretending to be working, Jonah Hill, upon seeing Margot Robbie for the first time, whipping out his 'Willie' and pounding one off in front of a room full of drunks, a pantyless Margot Robbie on the carpet spread eagled in front of Leonardo while the security detail watched, Leonardo's graphic last 'hook-up' with Margot, watching the orgy of naked, male homosexuals using their exposed stiffies to perform the doggy 'Bump 'n Grind,' the movie's 560 f-bombs and the scores of gorgeous Hotties prancing in front of the camera throughout the entire film in all their full-frontal-nude beauty (I'm a hypocrite, I know, but that part of the film I didn't mind! It's what kept me from walking out after watching the first ten minutes of the show........tsk·tsk).

Margot Robbie having fun with Leonardo

The wife and I went to the movie because we enjoy Leonardo DiCaprio's work. Even though the two of us didn't care much for 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' I'm sure this naughty, soft-porn flick will end up winnin' a bunch of Oscars........... just sayin.'

I was excited to go see the WOWS when it first came out but I haven't seen it yet cause I heard just what you all are saying. It is pretty much an onslaught of F-bombs and depravity. Now, I'm sort of depraved in my own way but that doesn't mean I want to watch someone else's version of depravity.

I'm also a little weird when it comes to movies on the subject of business. I don't really watch to be entertained, I watch to learn a little something about business. If I find it entertaining at the same time, then that's a bonus.

If I watch it I'll do it when it comes out on DVD.

Hollywood lost it years ago. Mindless , talentless guys with pony tails in BMWs' who make formula pictures. Especially if it was hit once then remake it. But wait, lets formulate it and make it better!

Classic example is Flight of the Phoenix. Instead of the broken down pilot who is at the bottom of the barrel flying for this oil company make him younger, better looking, a pilot/ oil company trouble shooter who decides if wells are closed or not. Then let's add a character, a good looking young woman so she and the pilot can fall for each other. And take the desert smugglers and put them in the final scene only instead of camels they are on dune buggys and motor cycles firing automatic weapons and rockets as they try to take off!

That remake of course was a bust.

Since the first The Terminator was a hit there is a remake of that in pre-production now.

There used to be an independent movie rental place near me with a large section of foreign films. Really miss those films, definitely not clapped together formula crap. Good enough to put up with the subtitles. Also many hollywood films are remakes of these films. These foreign originals are better than the Hollywood copies.

Good points, Pro. Good movies are hard to find. I prefer independents over Hollywood movies. Even if the production value is poor it doesn't mean the movie is poor. We don't need a minimum of a 5 million dollar budget to produce a movie any more. A decent video camera and a few volunteers and a GREAT script is really all that is needed these days.
