    Default Metal Detector

Any advice on a metal detector to purchase for personal use? I would like to hunt stuff underground for relaxation after spending all week hunting stuff underground! I have no idea and could use some help.

I've always thought this would be a cool hobby. I have never tried it personally but have seen people in the past combing through parks and beaches for lost treasures.

I have a Bounty Hunter 202 made by Pioneer. It's fairly cheap, around $100 to $150 and works really well. Good unit to start out with. Has plenty of different controls and metal selections. It really paid for it self last summer when the wife lost her wedding ring in about 2 feet of water on a beach we go too every week. Went back out there the next day, ran it over my ring because it is the same as hers to get the metal setting and stuck it in the water and found the ring in less then 5 minutes. It's definitely fun to do when you remember to you have the damn thing sitting in the garage. Hope this this gives you a starting spot.

Coinmaster is always a good beginner metal detector. I bought a MineLab and paid a pretty penny for it. I'm considering selling it but am not sure yet.

I would suggest you get a Metal Detector off of ebay for cheap before you decide if it is a hobby you want to do. It can be expensive if you are an impulse buyer like me.

There are many good treasure finders out there. Fisher makes some good ones. Just make sure you don the proper attire at the beach when you use it: Shorts, sandals, and black socks.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. It sounds like I shall start off cheap, wear black socks and see what happens. Who knows maybe I will find an old broken down 810 that I will use to light up all utilities and mark em all.........

So I am now armed with a Bounty Hunter Legacy 3300 and ready to find some stuff!
$299.00 from Dick's sporting goods. Funny thing is that I used my performance bonus from locating to buy the darn thing. Sure hope it pays off.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help me out.
