    Default Merry Christmas

    Thought this was very appropriate:

Take a moment while you are enjoying this Christmas with your families to thank those that make the greatest sacrifice so we may all be free. I thank each of you for your sacrifices to ensure public safety daily. Merry Christmas to you all.

    TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
    HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
    PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
    WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
    AND TO SEE JUST WHO
    IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

    I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
    NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
    NOT EVEN A TREE.

    NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
    JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
    ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
    OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

    WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
    AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
    A SOBER THOUGHT
    CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

    FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
    IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
    ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

    THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
    SILENT, ALONE,
    CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
    IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

    THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
    THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
    NOT HOW I PICTURED
    A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

    WAS THIS THE HERO
    OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
    CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
    THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

    I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
    THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
    WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

    SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
    THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
    AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
    A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

    THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
    EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
    BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
    LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

    I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
    HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
    ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

    THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
    I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
    AND STARTED TO CRY.

    THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
    'SANTA DON'T CRY,
    THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

    I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
    I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
    MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
    MY! COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'

    THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
    AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
    I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
    I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

    I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
    SO SILENT AND STILL
    AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
    FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

    I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
    ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
    THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
    SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

    THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
    WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'

    ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
    'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

This poem was written by a Marine.

Very good Spray... thank you for posting it! And thank you Hurricane and all those who are protecting the USA.

There are no words or actions that can truly compensate for the sacrifices you have all made in one way or another. Merry Christmas to you all and may you have peace and safety and return home soon!!!

That was awesome. They are defineately in our prayers as we go to bed tonight. One amazing thing that happened today; I was at church with my family when a couple of US Army troops on leave for the holidays walked in and were reunited with their families for the first time in over a year. Yes they will be heading back in a few weeks, but I think that was probably better than any other present that anyone will receive tomorrow. One of them got to hold his child for the first time. The entire congregation stood in applause for several minutes. Now that was to me was a true Christmas present.

That is really awesome. I love to hear stuff like that. All this week I was feeling a little down about being on the other side of the world for yet another Christmas. Kinda homesick and wishing I was anywhere but here.

Then, on Christmas Eve, we got word that an American soldier was killed that morning, and we would be paying final respects as his body was loaded on the plane for the ride home. (we do this every time one of our brothers has to take that last ride) After that, I felt very lucky to be here doing what I am doing, because it means my family doesn't have to worry about terrorists. My sacrifice is nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to that guy. I have seen way too many of those ceremonies here to ever forget about those that have spent time away from their families, especially during the holiday season.

I really don't have a point to this post, but hearing about the soldier seeing his kid for the first time on Christmas made me feel good. Thanks for posting that.
