Default Locator Laws ( sort of like Murphy's Laws )

Law #1 : If a contractor calls in 2 tickets and you can only get to one of them before the Due Date, he will always start digging on the unmarked ticket first.

Law #2 : If you have a long project that you cannot fully mark before the Due Date, the contractor will always start at the end opposite where you started marking. If you were able to start at both ends, he will start in the middle.

Law #3 : If you "think" a facility is running at a certain place, it more than likely isn't.

This is just a start, feel free to add your own laws.

Law #5 - All emergencies for water leaks shall wait until you are on the other end of your area, at least 20 miles away, and shall be called in approximately 5 minutes before the locator is to clock out.

Law #6 - Put a valid phone number for the site contact, and if you put your cell phone number on there, answer the damn thing when someone calls it.
Law #6A - If you are said site contact, make sure that your voicemail is not full and will accept messages.

Law #7 - Most contractors believe that they are the only ones digging at any given moment, and will wait until you are on the other end of your area to find either an abandoned cable or a cable that isn't your and want you to come and look at it.

Law #16 - Just because your supervisor and the label on the case of paint says ORAGE, RED etc, look inside the box before you take it with you. (This happened to me once, my sup brought me 7 cases of orange. I held them for a large project, and guess what...every damn can was green)
