Default Jacket cut on electric cable

I am a homeowner who is getting new gas line run to my house. The gas company sub contracted the work out. They dig call 811 before hand, and actually had them out again today. The guys did not finish the work and left for the day. So I went down by the street to look in the trench and noticed a big electric cable, just poking out of the ground, right about where they stopped for the day. Upon closer inspection they definitely nicked the jacket of the cable in two spots. It's liked the blade of the backhoe grabbed it and stretched the jacket in both spots, which are a couple of inches long. I don't "think" they pierced it all the through. Should I be concerned at all? they never mentioned anything to me, and I assume just left for the day. Thank you

Call the electric company for your area and report finding a damaged cable. They will come out and inspect and make any needed repairs. A nicked electric cable is a failure that will eventually happen and you power goes out and your yard dug up again.

In my area some of these contract crews have one person who speaks some English. Regardless of language some of these subcontractors just jam cable into the ground, cover up excavation and bill for the work. Paying for a damage cuts into their profits.

I agree with PL . that needs to be reported . that nick will come to haunt someone later down the road when the power goes out and no knows why .....
wise men talk because they have something to say and fools because they have to say something....plato
